IE can bog down depending on what extensions you use and/or with certain default features enabled. I always choose custom when setting up IE because a lot of those built in features bloat it.
I can't say I've been happy with Firefox's speed either though. I don't even install it anymore.
Opera is fairly fast, but not as compatible with sites as I'd like.
Iron is fast, but also not as compatible with sites, and won't notify of or install updates.
I've also found Iron is not as secure as I'd thought.
Recently I did a fair bit of searching for reviews and tests on browsers, and to my surprise many are saying Chrome is one of the most secure now. I've always heard it's super fast too.
I was not totally convinced though, despite some security firms like Accuvant saying Chrome's plug-in protection and sandboxing makes it safer than others.
Then I saw Avast offering Chrome with their free version of AV, and I thought, if Avast trusts it, I have to try it. Granted a lot of free software has random offers, but this is Avast.
So far I have to say chrome has been much better than I'd anticipated. It's always lightning fast, and I've yet to see any problems security wise. I DO use ad blocking plugins though, as I would with ANY browser.
