Does anyone have any industry connections here to encourage bringing green pcbs back to the ATX/PC gaming world? Green and black especially. I even gimped myself by getting a Gigabyte low end board with a doodoo brown PCB (the Gaming X and UD models both have it) just to avoid the tackiness. In Intel land, even Supermicro's consumer boards look terrible. Don't they realize their server boards are better looking? This crap isn't even cool to kids either. Console gamers laugh at the aesthetics of PCs. Who the hell is it for?

I don't see normal green PCBs coming back anytime soon. With the prevalence of tempered glass cases, building your own PC is very much about aesthetics these days. While you might prefer the standard green PCB of old, motherboard manufacturers probably figure they can appeal to a wider audience with a neutral colored PCB and then implementing RGB to allow the consumer to choose whatever color scheme they want.

id bet a dollar, you could lay a sheet of green on top of a motherboard, with some double sided tape, or spray glue, etc. to get the aesthetic look of a Green PCB. my wife is big in to crafts, & she puts designs on all kinds of crap, mugs, plates, ornaments, etc. it would take some time cutting out the pertinent parts, but it could be done. might be a cool side project.

personally i got enough green PCB from the years of Pre custom PC era, but i can appreciate the interest.

That's the thing though. It's not even a good aesthetic. The Matrix already sealed the deal on what are cool computer aesthetics.

I'm glad Beige is gone though. Back in the day, the only cool cases were from UNIX guys.

Just do all black with a few green LEDs if you want it to look like the Matrix. All black is the best anyway and it's really easy to do these days.

lay a sheet of green
Lay a sheet of green what? Frankly, that sounds like a very bad idea to me. How would you accommodate all the cable connections, RAM, etc.? But more importantly, PC electronics is not designed to be covered by a blanket. It needs to breathe.

I actually like today's black/dark gray boards. It makes everything on the board stand out better. If aesthetics are that important, everything goes with black.

The green boards are so 30 - 40 years ago. I think they should stay away.

That's your personal preference/opinion and you're entitled to it, but not everybody prefers the same thing. Again, I think manufacturers are thinking primarily about what will get customers to buy their products - the ability to choose whatever color scheme they wish means they aren't losing buyers because they don't like the look of a product

Just do all black with a few green LEDs if you want it to look like the Matrix. All black is the best anyway and it's really easy to do these days.
Or just blackout the inside and do one of those TG side panel LCD mods and have the matrix code coming down all the time

Purple. Purple's the one I want.

Real talk though. If we're going to bring any old stuff back, can we also get more cold cathode tubes?

I can't even get a board without RGB

I don't even mind it if they be disabled permanently.

The offenders are those that turns themselves on the moment I uninstall the RGB control crapware like in the case of my GPU.

I hate this about my mouse (Corsair). It's the only RGB equipment I have (got it because the wireless has relatively good performance even for games). I have to install iCue just to turn it off.. and even then, the RGB comes back anytime the computer goes to sleep. Not even resetting iCue fixes it. Only a reboot works. Not to mention iCue is a bloated, slow piece of software to begin with.

I would, but I don't trust myself with this kind of assembly. No screws to be found. All snapped in with very seamless grooves.

You're lucky, my Logitech mouse turns on the G logo by itself when I play certain games and the software is telling me that I have no control over it, as certain games are allowed to control the LEDs in my mouse. WTF?!

But green PCBs, no thanks.

My Glorious Model O- does something equally funny, whenever I turn my fluorescent lights in the bathroom and they shine across the room on the mouse, the mouse lights up despite the PC being turned off (Yes I know about USB power options in the BIOS :p)

Since we're airing our grievances about RGB controlled things, here's mine: Build theme colors are black, red and silver, and most of the time I like to have my fans lit white, and the mobo and RAM in red. Looks nice except for one really annoying thing... My GPU. It's an MSI card, and everytime I've tried running that stupid dragon center program just for Mystic Light, I'm able to change the default rainbow to something else, but at the cost of the lights on my RAM borking out -- the last time I tried running it, my RAM got stuck in rainbow mode and was no longer being recognized in Polychrome Sync, so I ended up having to take the RAM out and popping it back in. :wtf:

So yeah, the RGB on my card is stuck on rainbow, amidst a sea of red and white. Oh boy

Well, that's why I use the Corsair. It has slipstream, which is more or less the same. But it looks like the grass isn't greener on the other side.

I think mine was some ASUS board in the Athlon XP days. Forgot the gpu. Something Nvidia.
