Yeah after hearing about no cockpit view they lost a sale with me. I tolerated it in DiRT Showdown...
There's a fan made mod that adds several camera angles to Showdown, including cockpit view. Speaking of Showdown though, I find it odd they talk about what they can't (actually refuse) to do with GRID 2, their most requested title, after they wasted years making low profit games like OF: Red River and Showdown. A two year old could budget dev studio money better than they've been.
@KingPin,
Not surprising that the article you linked to in one sentence takes that 5% cockpit audience down to nothing when following it with saying omitting it is "more beneficial to
everyone". I's a bit hypocritical when they invite staff from places like GameTrailers over, toss them in a D-BOX, and insist on seeing whom can drive the best. If that's not a 5 percenter scenario, I don't know what is.
In the end it's just a cheap, lazy alternative to omitting cockpit view on consoles only, or lowering out of focus textures on systems that can't handle it as well. I mean let's face it, cockpit view is supposed to primarily give the feel of concentrating on the road and your opponents from the driver's perspective anyway, not admire dash textures or distant terrain.
They're really shooting themselves in the foot with this. There may indeed be only 5% of their race game audience using cockpit view, but typically if those 5 percenters are given a game they like, they are FAR more loyal and active online than those whom come and go casually. They're also throwing out a statement as if to say they are nowhere as good at developing as Slightly Mad, whom made both Shift 1&2 with cockpit view across multiple platforms and with pretty damn good graphics.
@Viper,
I can relate to the sentiment, but really, GRID and Project CARS aren't even the same class of game.
