GT620 Far Cry primal?

I just noticed on steam that my nephew got a new game from his parents, Far Cry Primal.
A while ago I told them they should upgrade the videocard, gave them a link to a GTX750Ti without power connector.
The other system specs are some i5 and 6GB ram I believe.
They have a small old monitor resolution though.

I think it's unlikely that a GT620 this can run at playable fps.
Since the minimum specs are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (1GB VRAM) | AMD Radeon HD 5770 (1GB VRAM) or equivalent.

I don't want to ask him how it runs though.
What do you guys think?

Is it playable with a GT620 and small resolution monitor?
I think its 1280x1024.

Nowadays minimum requirements usually imply min settings @ 1080p.
I played Fallout 4 for gigs on an AMD A4-5300B with IGP graphics at 720p min settings. It was painfully slow (~15-25FPS), but it worked

They have an i5 though unlike the P4 630 in the video.
Or would the CPU not make much a difference.
Edit: I see on that video the CPU does not do much, so an i5 would not make much difference.

As far as I know he never checks the graphic settings either, they just download the games and run it as is.

I hope they will see now that they need a better graphics card.

I'd suggest a used GTX750 or GTX660 even with 1GB VRAM. Both are so cheap right now, that you can afford it even if you are a lazy jobless teenager.

Well, he's 12, but I hope they notice that it's not all smooth overall...
I recommended them buying a GTX750Ti for the newer games.
I hope they do buy that.

I have a GT620. It probably can't run ANYTHING. Well the original Unfortunately most AIBs don't follow Nvidia's specs and add slower memory to low end cards like the GT620. So, with a 64bit data bus and best case scenario 1800MHz DDR3 - but as I said they use slower memory so probably less than 10GB/sec bandwidth(my GT620 came with 1200MHz DDR3) - this card can't play anything even if you pair it with a 10GHz, 64 cores, Xeon monster. It is many times slower than a 9800GT, or an HD 3870 for example.

PS I was playing Call of Juarez many many years ago(damn....) with a 7600GT. When running in a forest, fps where dropping to simple digit, like 7 fps. I loved playing that game. He is 12? Probably he will love it even if the game drops to 10 fps in many occasions. The younger someone is and the more ignorant about benchmarks he is, the more he will care about the game, than the fps and settings.

PS2 GT620 is a rebranded GT430 with it's bus cut in half and slower DDR3 memory.

But yeah,he's 12 so maybe he just thinks like "oh it's loading the game" so it works!!

There's an older i5 in it.

But as you can see , Far Cry 4 works, it's playable , low settings though but it works, so FC Primal should be playable for him.

Yeah I know where he is coming from, I used to play on 20 fps in a best case scenario not very long ago. You get used to that more easily than you'd think, and can even be semi-competitive.

Well i'm sure 25-30FPS steady is fine, i mean he's only 12, i'm happy he has something that works TBH, good for him

I think they never change any ingame setting...
They just start it up and play as is.

At 1:08 is says base quality, 800x600 4:3. Base quality is probably low quality? Don't know.

In a 16:9 monitor I guess something like 1024 X 600 wouldn't offer much worst gaming experience than that in the video. It's only a matter of memory speed with these cards. If your nephew's card is equipped with memory at 1600-1800MHz he is lucky. 1066-1200MHz, not so lucky.

I only know they have a GT620 in there, I don't know the brand/model nor the clockspeeds.
He's in-game now a few hours already so he must be enjoying it somehow

Probably running at a very low resolution like 800x600 as mentioned. I mean, it works, which is what counts.

Far Cry 4 (and Primal, basically the same game) is a complete bitch because its video settings don't mean jack shit. Obviously anyone running a R9 280X and above has no reason to have to dabble in video settings to reach 60fps, but anyone with a lesser card will find that it sucks complete balls to try and find the important setting that improves performance by a measurable amount.

That is, probably aside from resolution. THat probably has the biggest impact. @john_ I was in that rut for nearly 10 years gaming on a P4 HT 530 and a 82915G chipset GMA (<1 fps on CS Condition Zero anyone?) but once you get to a card that lets you play without worrying about video settings, it's hard to go back to worrying about that.

Believe me if you like the game you will enjoy it. Call if Juarez and those 7 fps when running in the forest is one of those memories that have remained in my mind
