Ok so basically in my secondary travel computer I have a GTS450 slightly overclocked on a MSI 880GM-E35, all powered by a Athlon II X2 at 2.8 GHz. Is the 450 being held back? Compared to my single 5770, when I upgraded from my dual core to my 6 core I got a HUGE performance boost.

So basically for movie burning, BFBC2, COD series, and normal use should I upgrade my processor or is my dualcore just fine? Thinking about getting a low GHz quad core.

Thanks InerTia*

for BFBC2, considering the game will actually use 4 core of a quad, it could use a upgrade, but your gonna want a quad that is clocked close to the speeds of your dual

My dual core is overclocked. Just saying.

If you could OC your dual to 3.4-3.6ghz that would give you a nice improvement in some games, though others that utilise quads you are going to see poor performance from.

You haven't specified what res you are gaming on, what settings, how much ram you have etc, all of which are important factors also.

Also bearing in mind the GTS 450 isn't a high end card, I would imagine it to be on par with a gtx 260 give or take the gtx 260 may even just pip the 450 to the post in most games except dx11, though I highly doubt the 450 is placed well enough to run dx11 at decent settings anyway so it matters not.

Ok I can give you some feedback for bfbc2 based on how the game preforms on mine and my friends systems.

phenom 2 x4 B50 @ 3.2ghz, 4870 1gb, 4gb ddr3 ram, vista ultimate 64bit. Runs about 40-45fps average. 1920x1080

Q6600 @ 2.66ghz, 4850 512mb, 4gb ddr2, windows 7 32 bit. Runs about 25-30fps average. 1680x1050

Q6600 @ 3.2ghz, 8800gt 512mb, 4gb ddr2, windows xp 32 bit so running dx9. Runs about 30-35fps average. 1680x1050

e6400 @ 3.2ghz, 8800gt 512mb, 2gb ddr2, windows vista 64 bit. Very laggy about 20-25fps perhaps lower probably because of 2gb ddr2 in vista 64bit. 1920x1080.

Considering the 4870 is near enough the same as the gts 450 (iirc) you could see a reasonable gain.

Resolution?

Good point, added them now. Note that i'm estimating the fps based on what I saw at our last lan party, all on the same map.

perhaps the results are a bit useless then. Have a look here though. Must be the single player considering the frame rate.

EDIT: have a look here it's the same buyt running on a gtx260. it's quite surprising the hit it takes going to dx10 on nvidia while it is much smaller on ati? :wtf:

I have a GTS 450 on my girl's system with a 1440 x 900 monitor and it's great; totally silent and with overvolting it does 985mhz on the core!

BFBC2 requires a quad core imo. I had an overclocked (2.9 GHZ) AMD 4850e dual core and a GTS 250 and my frames were in the low 20's peak with like a 15% GPU load. Popped in an Phenom II 925 and now it's in the mid 70's with the GPU loaded up in the 80%+ range on average. So yea for BFBC2 that CPU is bottle necking the GPU.
