s1Lv3r, are you running the fan at 100% when you overclock? Also, what sort of temperatures do you get in idle/load? It could be just a matter of high temperatures. How is the case airflow?

If your overall temps are fine then one way to test if a particular GTX 260 GPU is a decent sample is to set it to EVGA GTX 260 FTW clocks, at least GPU/shader wise. Set it to 666MHz core, 1404MHz shader, VRAM at stock. If it can do those clocks, then chances are it can do 700MHz+ on the core.

fan at %75 temperatures near 68 load idle 54 @630mhz my case is armor+mx side panel have 23cm fan , 12cm intake and 12cm exhaust

i will try that evga clocks but i think cant run fine

Not sure about what others think, but s1Lv3r's temp looks very high to me, mine idles at 40/45 and load around 60/62 @ 724 core clock on stock cooling (on auto fan control ~ should be less than 60% fan speed). Maybe need to recheck the airflow?

my gtx is not overclocked well only 630 mhz gpu reached try to run 650 have artifact and not have stabilty mems works 1250mhz stable but gpu dont reach 630 need help :(

Do you run atitool or furmark ?

If I didn't know better, I'd recommend
1. Raise Shader clock until you get artifacts
2. Raise Core clock towards half shader clock, or until no arties (or BSOD's :D)
3. Raise mem until no arties

I noticed that with atitool, if I broke the 2.0 shader/core ratio (lowering core clock under half shader clock), I got visible artifacts, but no errors...when I get these, I simply adjust, no way I'm gonna stare at it. With the very same shader clock and core exactly half, no artifacts at all.

Then there is the "Delta of 22 in 1 pixels"...I start getting it after 1215 on Mem. I just tested 1224MHz with 3 3DM06 runs, no issues.

Anyone have more info about the visible artifacts and "Delta of 22..." ? I've set my atitool to detect artifacts at highest level (lowest oc)

EDIT ///

Btw, I'm also using 177.92 beta, and dumped RivaTuner 2.09 for oc'ing. EVGA's Precision Tool 1.3.2 is about the same, but with more GT200 support.

I stopped using ATITool for artifact scanning long time ago. It is not updated as much as it used to be. Not very accurate or compatible either anymore. More than a few times when overclocking my old 8800GTX I would see obvious and major artifacts in the scanning window yet ATITool would not detect anything. Last card I used ATITool successfully with was my much older X850XT. Not sure if it's the ATI vs. nVidia issue, or simply lack if updates (shouldn't be called AMDTool now?) but I don't use it anymore. Don't have it installed anymore. What’s the point of the auto-artifact detection if it doesn’t detect any obvious artifacts I can actually pick up with my own eyes.

I use FurMark now. Very effective for artifact detection. It puts a lot of stress on on the GPU and heats it up nicely. Sometimes my overclocks would pass 3DMark 2001/2003/2005/2006 loops, without artifacting, but with those same overclocks I would pick up artifacts in FurMark in minutes.

Yes, but how do we explain the phenomena, when I have a artifact free OC, then lower core clock one notch - it shows major artifacts, but no error from atitool. The higher oc is still stable in games (ratio 2.0 namely).

Also noticed, that windows (MSN) popping up, mouse in rendering area can cause visible arties(with errors).

EDIT ///

I suspect Vista Aero for much fuss...

The oc's on these things are strange. I've been seeing a lot of people post and talk about how after ocing their cards their benchmarks and stuff go down or stay the same. That is somewhat true as the best score I've had with mine is when I first put them in. Just shy of 20k in 3dmark06. I had mine at 700 core 1520 shader earlier and they had been this way for a few days of gaming, I've been playing cod4 a lot, today out of nowhere it artifacted and I ended task and put them back to default. Seriously, wtf. Also, with my stuff linked if I set my core to 700 my shaders are at 1538, can you guys tell me what yours goes to? I'm leaving em be for now as I don't notice a performance increase either way.

this may be coz of GT200 gpu support lack on older oc tools (count rt 2.09 as old with GT200)...users input a higher core clock than allowed (vs shader clock, it will revert to max core clock, or perhaps 2d clocks?). They might visually see 790 core via app...
then there is the SLI element...

edit ///

my GTX260 with EVGA Tool 1.3.2 goes, when I set "700" on Core:
702 Core
1512 Shaders

thats the usual 2.15x ratio...and 1512 on shaders is pretty hard, 50-50 what I've seen so far.

That's hot s1lv3r. What are your ambient temps? Your case is generally good for airflow and such, but those temps seem high to me.

Very hot in my book (61C hottest I've seen my GTX260 with fan on manual 80%)

But: I think you will be fine when you increase core to 702MHz, unlink the shaders so you get: 702/1404/mem speed

edit // if it's OK, then raise shaders to 1458 AND core to 729mhz, perfect 2.0 ratio...and stop looking at selected freqs, look what the app displays (actual clocks, not fantasy clocks)

If you dont know if you're running auto or manual on your gfx fan, google and download EVGA Precision Tool...set it to manual 80% and your temps go away, i'm sure.

Those are somewhat high ambient temps buddy. My temp is 72F with a/c on. I run it pretty much 24/7 like that. You may want to look into so more fans or possibly getting a room air conditioner for the room your case is in? They can be had for a few hundred american dollars, so depending how deep your pockets are....

3mins and 70C with 100% and that oc..70c may be just fine, but 100% fan...what you get on 80% and 5-10min?

I can stand 80% fan, np..but my case Antec 900 is just perfect for this card: I put both HDDs at lower HDD bay, removed the extention fan thing at first hdd bay, and the top-front 120mm intake blows directly to my GTX, no hdds in the way. Also a 120mm at side, blowing on GTX260....all this on low speed (but noticably...)

edit...i have cool room, my pc is also on FLOOR, 1m from window that's "always" open..case sucks cold air inside, I guess that counts for 10C diff.

edit: "anakart", looking at the pic, must be system/mobo temp..that is surprisingly low, 39C :D

Wow! 96C is way too hot. Did you confirm your temperatures with another tool like GPU-Z (it has a "Sensors" tab). If not, try the latest GPU-Z (version 0.2.7) and see what it tells you. Also, are you sure the fan is actually picking-up RPMs once you move the slider? (Does the noise coming from the fan increase or does it stay the same?) It might be stuck at default 40% or something.

Another way to test it is if you have a third party thermal probe.

My friend's GTX280 oc'd goes 85C...np...nothing wrong with your fan, its just your room temp/chassi intake that is little low? So little diff from 100 to 80% ! go for 80% and make more air in case. also raise core to 702 !

edit...a dumb silly request...your mobo/system temp 39C is cooooooooool, normally that temp goes hand-in-hand with GPU temp raise....:

did you remove all plastic off the card?
