You said you are running the game at 8x AA, try bring that down to 4x and if AF is on like 8x, bring it down to 6x. It should improve your frame rate enough to help the PhysX slow down issue, at least until they patch the game and/or update the drivers again.

keep in mind this game has been out for days and they will have to work some stuff out.

just a tiny fyi

batman : aa came out on august 25th for ps3/360.. the PC version is scheduled for Sept 15th (they said they have to implement the nvidia physx so it took more time)

this is just the demo so I'm willing to bet when the real thing comes out we'll have a different impression.

There is a whole other aspect of this game, the exspolovie gel, rc controlled batarangs and decaying walls falling to pieces as you explore through arkham..

if a tile floor kills my rig for 15 seconds @ 8-12 fps I cant imagine how the decaying walls will do.. and id hate to play through the game ruining it by not having physx turned on... its like a movie you anticipated and the trailer spoils it by showing too much, i guess..

After reading around the webz I guess it's just best playing with PhysX off until things are fixed.

does anyone not find it odd that the ut3 physx maps run like shit?

While ut3 runs flawless without it, and to be honest, those maps suck.

I wish some people would post there results in here that are using dedicated physx cards because Id go out right now and buy one if I knew it would make a difference

I remember my GTX260 running quite well with UT3 PhysX maps and Mirrors Edge. Can't remember any other games I played with PhysX. Sad that PhysX is going away with DX11, but perhaps we'll start seeing more games with nice physics using the new system. :)

Good to know, but I never suggested turning the PhysX OFF. I merely stated turn other stuff down to compensate to see if that helps.

The real game will be better cause most Demo's are based on Beta pre-release versions of the game, not the final release. Demo's help get the word out and get people interest, but it also helps the developers spot game issues like this one.

E8600 @ 4ghz, 1680x1050 for UT3, though I could of had my 1920x1200 monitor, not too sure. Mirrors Edge was definitely using my 1920x1200 monitor.

This raises an interesting question! Is PhysX bottlenecked more by a slower CPU than say normal graphics rendering.

Well, I didn't have a whole lot of time to test this morning, but I definitely did not have a massive slowdown using my GTX285 in Batman:AA, and as I said before the UT3 PhysX maps are completely playable hovering right around 60FPS IIRC.

I'll get screenshots up for Batman:AA at the tile breaking part, and UT3 PhysX Maps.

looking at newtekies last comment, Im thinking slower cpu's result in piss poor physx performance.

a newer cpu will have me up all night doing this all over again so I can compare.

oh the fun that awaits.

Well I can certainly test that tonight also. I'll disable two cores, and clock the CPU back to 3.0GHz and see what happens.

Well I just got done playing for a few minutes, neat game...not really something I'm dying to play, but glad I tried it out. Definately a promising game...I'll have to setup my xbox 360 controller for it tho...I just don't think KB + Mouse is proper for this game...I know it's a console port..and the controls work decently.

Aside from that performance was solid, I ran 1920x1080, 4xaa, everything else maxxed out, highest physx, etc. My FPS went no lower than 27, though my 260 is OC'd, my q6600 is oc'd, my mb is at 400fsb, giving a little more bandwidth and with x64 I'm utilizing all of my memory...I dunno if this game is much of a memory hog, but it does look pretty good and the animations are also pretty decent. I'll have to try it later when I can direct more attention to it, got some other things to take care of atm tho. But so far it runs nice and smooth, I do have vsync on, and generally I've been around the 40-60 range, the lowest I monitored was 27 though.

you had 27fps even on the scene where you have to kick zaz while gliding from the gargoyle?

and yes the 360 controller is good with this game

Zaz, at the beginning w/the electric chair hostage? No the 27fps low point was beyond that scene, where you're in the complex w/5 armed guys (after the 4 armed guys instance). At the scene with zaz i believe I was in the 30's-40's...I'll load up again and try to pay more attention because I could be dead wrong, but it was silky smooth through that part.

if youre telling me you were over 27 fps on the zaz scene with the electric chair then you have the optimal settings or something.

onboard' didnt even hit that and his system is better than what im using. he is running a 280 with an e8400 @ 3.2 and took a hit at 19fps during the zaz part..

Maybe it likes quads better, I'm at 3.6 on my quad, 400fsb on my p45, 1066 memory @ 1066 5.5.5.15, x64 sp2 vista, 190.62 x64 whql drivers, 670/1458 1300 on the 260-216.

Game settings as I stated before all cranked up, physx at max, AA @ 4X, res at 1920x1080, vsync on. During the Zaz scene it floated around 40-50fps, and during the flying kick scene it dropped to 41fps and stayed there from what EVGA precision is telling me. Dunno what to tell ya...if I can find the video settings screen again, I'll be more than glad to take a screen of my settings for ya, and use precision's in-game osd, atm I use my G15 osd instead as onscreen fps has grown to annoy me. If a game runs smooth I don't care what FPS I'm getting...it's only when it get's choppy it's an issue.

I'll see what I can do for screenies for ya. It did default to very high settings I do remember that...I'll see what I can dig up for ya to verify.

EDIT:

Here's my settings:

Here's some in-game screenshots using those settings with EVGA OSD enabled:

Maybe I have a setting changed or lowered enough? I dunno...like I said I've been doing "dirty" driver installs for the GTX...but here's some screenies.

man, your screens look superb. I'm envious as F*** all

40 fps on the zaz... and youre using a 260?

It must benefit from the Quads...?? or x64?

Too bad you didn't get a snap of zaz layed out and the tiles all smashed up.. id like to see that dude onboard has to say

Gotcha, I just went in and deleted the usergamecfg file in the C:\User\USERNAME\Eidos\Batman folder lol! :p

I'll see if I can snag another pic with zaz layed out! I tried but hit F11 instead of F12 when that part happened lol! Yeah I'm using everything in my system specs as-is. You can always try Vista x64 man...your x86 key will work for the same version of x64. I find it MUCH better than 32-bit, seems more stable, a little more snappy, plus it allows you to use all 4GB of ram instead of having 4GB total between all memory based resources (i.e. vid cards). I love my rig, it's not new or amazing by any means, but for a solid gaming platform it does all I need and then some.

I'll see if I can getcha that zaz layed out screeny! :toast:

Edit: Well I tried...I got one right after I hit him into the tiles and they were breaking. Hope it works for ya, cause' I'm gonna continue on w/the game! :D

okay kursah, i have a bit of nitpicking to do..

look on page 2 of this thread and check out onBoards pics.. look at the floor

then look at the floor on your pics...

seems his has ALOT more tiles/physx going on?

Something seems off.

I know the cape is hiding some, and the fact that your getting that frame rate is amazing but i just think something is wierd here

Yeah I looked at his screenies too, I have my physx set on High, which recommends a GTX260 + 9800 for physx or whatever. It's still set there...so I dunno what the deal is lol. Whether there's something weird or not, the game looks pretty damn good and plays smooth so I can't really complain. I do like when you're fighting and you get close to a cement pillar you'll just devastate it into pieces, I gotta bind my 360 controller though...kb+mouse just really isn't doing it for me lol!

You might try w/o dual monitor if you have both hooked up to see if there's a glitch there, I do really gotta recommend the 190.62 drivers...so smooth, and maybe you'll be fine after a couple restarts for 2d clocks. Do a dirty install too if ya have been cleaning, try not doing that. I went from 182>186>190 w/o driver cleaner (I did clean the 185's and go back to the 182's a while back).

It might not hurt to try x64 if you get a chance, plus it also wouldn't hurt to break 400FSB on that setup of yours, seems to be a good and easy to hit sweet spot for an OC'd gaming rig that is still dependable. I don't mess around much with the NV chipsets so I dunno if that'd be an issue or not, but I doubt it would be.

That 275 should be walking all over me tbh, even with a dual core, but all said and done the rest of my system is faster plus I have 2 extra cores and better memory handeling of x64...that could very well be making a difference w/physx for some reason. Did you go into physx properties and make sure your GPU is being used as the primary physx adapter? It should be by default and maybe that was already covered.

these screens are taken with AO turned off, AA down to 4x from 8x and on 190.62 drivers

cpu back at 375x8 3gz memory at 1098mhz 5-5-5-15 11:16 1500fsb

everything is ok until physx comes into play

during the beginning of stage i was around 35-45 fps with peaks around 50

and here is zaz again...

and the take down..

nah man... your rig is playing this game flawlessly, tiles or no tiles.. he added the extra damage by throwing batarangs or w/e... but stilll he hit 19fps at the kick..

so im just wondering wtf is going on, if its x64, quad or driver install methods/issues.

Im tempted to install the physx drivers by themselves..
