I'm curious to know will a GTX 275 will still keep up in the cap of 2009 and on into 2010 when the newer games come using DX11?

My guess is that a GTX 275 to 2010 will be like a 9800gtx+ to crysis?

What about SLI, would 2 or even 3 275's in tri SLI be able ot keep up?

I bought a evga ftw 3 way sli board from someone on tpu and Im just thinking about how 3 way sli will benefit for me next year?

just wait dont get scared and start buying new hardware

keep playing your games wth what you have and once you notice the lag check your options

1. add another card for sli
2. is it cheaper to sell your current and upgrade to a better one

dont worry about it yet

i play all the games i want to play but any games i cant run maxed out i put to one side until my next upgrade sometimes it means im playing games 3 years later and i have to be patient , what i mean is in 2010 there will be games that run really good on your computer , play all these ones first then during this time technology will have moved on and become cheaper , i wont be buying any directx 11 games for a few years , then i will have a good directx 11 card by then , there are so many good games out there which will run like a dream on your set up , don't worry mate

Welcome to the forums!

I suggest you upgrade your operating system to a 64bit one, make use of that 4GB you have. You'll notice a big improvement in upcoming games if you do.

I was just about to ask if there is some performance perk for upgrading to Vista from XP Pro?

i run vista 64 ultimate , i went from xp home , i have 4 GB of ram , it just feels generally nippier , its a good os , it got a bad press when it was released but that was ages ago , a lot of people slate it because everyone else did i have a copy of ubuntu in my drawer that i got at the same time as vista64 i was going to dual boot but i have never got round to it , mostly because i am satisfied with this os , im not an expert , im just a regular computer guy , oh and it definately crashes less , as in it hasnt bsod once (when i havent been severly overclocking) it has crashed to desktop a few times as in this app has stopped working

I wouldn't bother with Vista now tbh, Windows 7 is already making huge waves due to it's better performance & smaller footprint and if you pre-order it now, you can snap it up for very cheap. However, it's not out until October.

i would stick with whatever gfx card you have until theres a game that ONLY supports DX11 cards and when they are even cheaper,or as people say above keep playing games until theres a framerate lag etc but i wouldn't expect any from an GTX275

Picked up two GTX 275s for SLI, and I think at the 400 Dollar price point it's about as best as you can get. My HD 4870 X2 was having trouble at 1920x1080, and the two GTX 275s did quiet well against the X2. Especially in GTA IV.

Any benchmarks from the SLI 275's?? I'd love to see a stock vs OC run on SLI 275's since they are 55nm and should handle the OC better.

From what I have seen dual 275's are just as good as a single 295. So I think it would be fair to compare the 9800GX2 to this year's games as to dual 275's vs 2010 games. The GX2 can handle almost everything at 1280x1024 but at 1900x1200 it can start to get laggy.

So, to address your question accurately what resolution do you game at? Can your PSU handle dual video cards(ie 600W+)?

currently game at 1600x900 but that might change son when I upgrade monitors and go 22-24" 1080.. and pass this (2 month) old monitor down to my daughter.

My psu is an antec ea650 3 12v rails... might be a little weak for sli, but i wont do sli until I see a 275 dirt cheap

XP is sooooo slow compared to Vista and 7 64-bit. Specially in gaming. If you want a cheap upgrade, grab the 7x64 RC.. You'll easily get better performance from that. As for the games you can't max with the 275, what are they? Games like Crysis and GTA4 are just poorly coded and has nothing to do with your hardware.

there arent any games i cannot max right now.. and when I overclock the cpu a few hundred mhz I can keep vsync @ 60

I mostly play cs:s and dod:s but theyre old school.. and I don't have hi-speed so I really don't play them much anymore.

So offline I usually play SF4, NFS:UC, Bionic commando (FUN), NBA2K9, Far Cry 2, prototype (such a crappy resolution ) and world in conflict: soviet assault.. daughter plays sims 2/3

I'm looking forward to modern warfare 2 and batman: arkham asylum, by the time they come out I will be in a new apartment and will probably have hi-speed again to play modern wf2 online, i hope.

godfather 2, oblivion, crysis, fallout 3 and ghostbusters are the other games i own/owned but havnt played more than 1-2 hours....

I think you're missing understanding his question. My take is that he wants to know if the machine he has built will suffice for now and for upcoming games, to which, you're right to an extent. It shouldn't be too hard to judge because as hopefully more games will make use of the latest hardware, but that doesn't make the thread stupid.

Especially if the OP wants other opinions to back up this own. In a sense, it's like asking how to spell a word you already know but aren't sure of. (It a weird way!)

Regardless of anything posted above that I have seen...

Until you find a game your system is lacking in don't bother.

Odds are by the time you start playing something that is going to beat on your video card too badly you are going to need a quad core and an overclock anyways.

The 275 is a good card, hang on to it, if it is starting to push buttons down line, then maybe buy another one to sli when the prices come down or replace it completely...

Look at video card releases lately, we will have a complete new line of cards by 2010, and I'm certain you don't have too much trouble playing anything as of yet.

Heck my (single) 4850 clocked plays all my games including Crysis on my 1920x1080 Very High Dx9 or Dx10 no issues.
