GTX 460 2GB SLI in a single card

Its two GTX 460s in a single card with a 1 gig framebuffer for just over $400. It is important to me because I don't have SLI and have had no luck hacking my way to it. In fact the way my Gigabyte X58 motherboards (DS4) are laid out it would probably be better to have a single slot used anyway as the slots are too close together for serous dual slot multi GPU use. I can't afford this now but when and if the price comes down to perhaps closer to $300 by Christmas or so then maybe just maybe I could give one a try. Anyhow it seems to be very interesting. The length of the card at 11.5" looks like it could be a problem for many smaller cases.

One sentence to describe it: too much of a bargain when you have a board that can't run SLI. (but looking at ~450W power usage on max load by itself?)

It is only 1GB effective framebuffer. And it is way overpriced, even at $300 it would be overpriced. You can get two GTX460s for $260.

It doesn't matter what the price is for 2 if you don't want to get a new motherboard and or deal with trying to hack. Post edited to reflect the 1 gig frame buffer. Its not fast enough to need 2 gig anyway.

as soon as they whack GTX560Ti GPU's on this design they'll have a real winner one their hands IMO, if it's priced the same anyway. that would be a seriously quick card.

When it comes down to it you can get a GTX 480 for $299 or GTX 570 for around $350. It is an interesting design but there are other more practical options that probably fit into smaller cases, too. The lack of a need for an SLI profile in those cards would be quite attractive. The price needs to come way down to $300 or less.

You're talking to a man with a real SLI GTX460 setup, the 1GB definitely holds it back.

The GTX 460 series or Fermi series in general has been shown not to scale well at 2560 * 1600 so I would love to see the data that shows it is a frame buffer issue and with what games that is the bottleneck and at what resolutions. Don't have time to delve into to this right now. Damn work. LOL

just buy a god damn GTX 570 and overclock it costs less and would be comparable performance wise and no dual gpu headaches, oh and did i mention its cheaper?

overclocked 570s easily out perform stock 580s and the 580 is on par with 460 sli so in that situation since you appear to want to only have 1 GPU physically in the system just get a GTX 570 and overclock it get similar performance for less use less power deal with less heat and no SLI dual gpu situations to worry about, if you can deal with 2 gpus get 2 REAL gtx 460 1gigs and physically SLI the cards for far less.

+1 to this it is the far better option to either get a 570 and OC the nuts off it (even mild OCs yeild great gains), Id reccommend a Gigabyte UD variant or Asus DCUII (cheaper than the dual 460 card). youll easily beat a stock GTX580 or 460SLi and have no dual GPU issues at all. or as mentioned two GTX460 1gbs are cheaper and will be better.

The GeForce GTX 460 1GB [SLi] may have held a higher average framerate, but in the areas that count the GTX 580 pulled through with the smoothest experience.

this will hold true for an overclocked 570 too, and in fact some games will even prefer this because they like a higher clock.

Metro2033 passes 1GB easily with DX11 enabled without even tessellation on at just 1080p, the GTX460 SLI would easily be able to handle these settings if it wasn't for the framebuffer. You don't need 2560x1600 to hit 1GB framebuffer usage in DX11 games.

Metro at 1920x1200 with no AAA dx11 tessellation on + depth of field can hit 1450mb of Vram usage adding 4xAA... well that puts you near 2000mb of Vram usage.
