In the next few days Il be placing an order for a case, psu and Gpu , Im torn between the new GTX 570 and SLI 460s , The psu will be a corsair aX series 750 or 850w depending on the gpu choice and the case will be a 800D of course, the rest of the system is the same as my systems spec.

Gaming wise i play all of the Call of Duty series , Need for speed hot persuit , sniper and a few other titles , hopefully in a few months a swap to a 1080p monitor will happen also probably 23/24 inch

The main thing i have noticed already is i can save close to £100 if i go the SLI route , altho at the price of more heat and i assume for power consumptions

what are peoples views/opinions , its all appreciated EVGA cards are preffered btw

Stephen

Another option could be 260 SLI if you really really feel like saving some funds. Now the cards in question; 768, 1GB or 1GB SE flavors? I think you should go 1GB or SE.

If you are playing NFS and whatnot, you don't really need two cards. I would probably pick up a single 460 in your situation. At the res I would guess (1920x1080) on a 23" monitor, I would say the 1gb 460 would be perfect! (and you wont have to update your PSU!)

Again, I think that is overkill for what you are doing. The 460 is at a good price point. If you wanna futureproof, go for the 570, but IMO, that 460 should be enough for another 2 years or more.

Ahhh! Totally changes things. Go for the 460 1GB, but as pvt pointed out try single gpu first and if that doesn't fit the bill then get a 2nd.

Exactly! In addition, you won't have to upgrade the PSU, so you will save alot of cash.

If I was to chose it would probably be the 460s in SLI (only two can be put in SLI as it does not support 3-way on the graphics cards themselves), but they would have to be the very best 460s which at present time you have two differents good ones to pick from:

EVGA GeForce GTX 460 FTW 1024MB GDDR5
This is the new generation type of the 4000MHz memory clock 460 which has came out very recently, this is the 460 which now has the highest specifications in comparison to the other 4000MHz (memory clock) 460 graphics cards. The only dislike I have with this is that you could arguably use a better GPU cooler.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 SUPER OC 1024MB GDDR5
The first of the 460s that I saw which had the 4000MHz memory clock and is the second most highest spec 460 (with 4000MHz memory clock) despite the fact that it was probably one of the first 460s to be released with it's types of memory clock. The difference between this and the EVGA 460 is very little and with overclocking you might be able to match this card to the same spec as the EVGA graphics card. However, my personal like of this is its twin fan GPU cooler which is known to run silently while keeping the card cool too.

i've always been a big fan of single gpu set ups because of the understanding you are less reliant on drivers to get the best from games but the reviews speak volumes .

hard choice

1 strong single is more reliable than 2 weaker paired up.

Hope it helps. :)
