Hi All,

About a year ago while waiting for the 600 series to come out I replaced my burnt out Galaxy 570 with and ASUS 570 DCII. When the 6 series came I asked if the upgrade was worth it but received mixed response on how much it would improve over my current card. So I kept the 570 and it is still pushing the majority of games fine. I was looking at an EVGA 770 and the specs were looking pretty sweet so I am wondering if the current generation would be a worthy upgrade or whether I should hold out longer?

I am currently playing the titles below off and on. For the most it is still going full tilt I can see it hitting 100% usage on a couple, but it is not overheating or stuttering the card is still putting up the good fight.

Skyrim
GW2
Borderlands 2
Tomb Raider
BioShock Infinite
BF3

The card I was looking at was the EVGA GeForce GTX770 w/EVGA ACX Cooler 2GB (02G-P4-2773-KR) and the price range seems cheaper then the 600 series.

Thanks for any input.

It would be like upgrading from a 570 to a 680. Check out reviews in the reviews section, I believe the particular card you want is in there.

You will gain about 33% more performance going to a 770 on average. The 770 is a overclocked 680, with tweaked memory to get the 7GHZ memory speed.

I would get the MSI 770 instead as it seems to be the best one,and he would do see more than 33% because hes using a 1920x1200 monitor which means about 40%.

I ordered a Gigabyte Windforce 2GB GTX 770 that should be here today (though i probably won't have time to play with it till next week). It's worth noting in my research that the 770 is based on the same GPU GK104 as the GTX 680 but while having higher power consumption under load (due to higher clocks) it also seems to run cooler and is also faster and at least when I was purchasing my card recently cheaper as well.

Also take a look at what the OC's are out there for 770's, they seem to OC pretty darn well. It was a tossup between MSI , GB and EVGA for me...but the GB had the 450W triple fan cooler and was $399 where the others were pushing the $420 to 450 range.

I also will note I've had this current HD5870 for over 3 years (bought it new) and it's performed amazingly well. I'm no fan of CCC, but ATI's drivers have treated me quite well. I ended up going with the $399 GTX 770 as the 7970GHz edition was a tad more expensive and I own half the games on the sale and don't care to waste my time reselling them for pennies. But I will say going into my new build I was set on a 7970GHz 3GB in all honesty. I really think either way you'll truly win, fwir the 770 and 7970GHz are a very close match, and while one is better in some games the other is better in a few others, and then there's a couple where they tie...it comes down to what you play now, what you want from your card and I honestly think driver support for both will be just fine.

This is where you need to decide do you necessarily need this upgrade yet? Or can you wait till the end of the year on the 570 and see what comes of future releases and maybe better prices on both of these cards. OC your 570 and enjoy? If you're gaming good now..and not having issues, then really it seems maybe you want to upgrade more than you need to? Whatever you choose, I'm sure you will be happy though, at the end of the day it's your wallet! :D

I would do it man. I went from a 570 to a 670 that has close to 680 performance and my K/D ratio sky rocketed so much in BF3 I had to get a better job.

Yes it would be a nice jump for him although I did not look to see what his CPU is.

I don't understand your math logic. If the 570 is 34% slower, then 770 is 34% faster.

I don't understand your math logic. If the 570 is 34% slower, then 770 is 34% faster.

3 is 50% more than 2 and 2 is 33.3% less than 3. The same exact way that 100 is 51.5% more than 66 and 66 is 34% less than 100.

Is your math logic telling you that 3 is 33.3% more than 2 as well?

I think the question here should be is does your 570 struggle in any of the games you play? If yes, have you overclocked your 570? If yes, does it still struggle in any problematic games? If yes, its time to upgrade, if no, you are ok still.

An OC 570 cant even lick the taint of a 770.

I honestly do want to upgrade, I wanted to last year when my first 570 went down. But there was a month or two before the release of the new cards and I couldn't stand the thought of a couple months without being able to game. It killed me to pull the trigger and buy a similar card but the DCII has held its own.

If it makes it seem less wasteful I am my brothers upgrade path so it will still get plenty of use down the road. For some reason their wives frown on them spending 4 to 6 hundred every couple years.:wtf:

All these responses are telling me I am on the right track.

If it helps I went from a GTX580 Classified Ultra 3GB to a standard GTX680. Both overclocked the 680 smoked that $700 GTX580 by a long-shot. BF3 was so different, I would have never even dared a GTX580 (even with 3GB) @2560x1440p. When I made the switch I was at 1080 and it went from uncooked pasta to melting butter. 770 all the way, especially at the current price point.

Actually he is right.. is about 50% faster. 570 SLI are practically equal to a 770. I have SLI 560 TI and are on pair with a 670 stock.

Math is for losers. Just get the 770 and smoke some trees.

Although getting the 770 is the right thing to do, and you correctly advised that, Math is not for losers.

Despite your smokey treats addled mind may think so, Math is the reason you even have a computer to spout this line of obvious vitriol towards something you just simply don't understand.

It's ok, lot's of people struggle with math, leading them to somehow "hate" it. That leads them down a path that eventually leads to your statement that 'Math is for Losers.'

Whatever, point is Math is not for losers, it is for everybody all the time, whether you like it or not!

I'm a little sorry I corrected him now. The 770 is a worthy successor to the 570. Get it, crank up the anti-aliasing, enjoy.

The fact you took time to defend math kinda proves my point.
