GTX 580 Dual SLI vs Single GTX TITAN

I'm really tempted to sell both of my MSI N580GTX Lightning XE GPU's for a single GTX TITAN but I'm not really sure if that would be the best thing to do. Anyone want to suggest the pro's and cons on this idea?

No it won't, really. Just check out the Titan review on TPU. There's a comparison with the GTX 590 and the Titan isn't far ahead of that card. The important thing to remember is that the clocks on the 590 are significantly reduced compared to dual 580s, so it loses a lot of performance, yet is still a challenger to the Titan:

TRWOV summed it up nicely. Personally, I haven't seen any microstuttering from SLI setups the few times I played around with them and I'm about to get another SLI setup when I install my new GTX 590.

Can't say it would outperform, maybe by a few fps. I'd do it just for the simplicity and improved feature set. Slap a X3 on there and get silence with a solid overclock. If you don't mind doing SLI again you could just get two 660 TI/670s. Those would certainly out perform the Titan and your 580 setup.

I would recommend Titan, from personal experience, I can tell you that SLI 580s are loud, hot and consume a lot of power, and yes, in 95% of cases Titan will outperform this setup.

The real question here is, why are you considering SLI 580s or even Titan, when clearly SLI 670s, 680s or even a single 690 can outperform Titan for much less or around the same price?

Are you planing to do compute heavy tasks, or gaming?

If it's the former, dual 7970s will certainly outperform Titan for less money in compute heavy applications.

If it's the latter, almost any dual high end Kepler setups or HD7xxx will outperform Fermi cards and probably even Titan for much less money.

Now, if you plan to game on a multimonitor setup then Titan or even dual Titans would be the way to go.

I would go with two 670 if I were to go SLI.

While Titan is a great card it is way overpriced. If you like SLI then yes, two 670 will do the job better than Titan for much less money.

I already have 2 580's in SLI and was just wondering if it'd be worth it to sell both of them for a single TITAN. But if the performance gain isn't gonna be that much from my current setup, then I'll just stick with what I got for now. IMO, my MSI N580GTX Lightning XE with Twin Frozr 3 aren't that loud anyways and practically don't hear them when I game cause I use my headset.

Dual 670 or 680 or GTX690 for single card, only consider Titan if you are planning SLI or you don't want a dual card solution due to issues like microstuttering.

I would say no.... Stick with your GTX 580 SLI until the GTX 780 releases..... The reason is while the Titain performs well for a single card solution... the fact is your GTX 580's still out perform it in most if not all cases. Not to mention that if you wait for the GTX 700 series to drop you will be able to get a similar performing card to the titian for half the price. A GTX 780/770 for $300 to $500 dollars is much more reasonable then a Titian for $1000+. And if rumors are correct... the GTX 700 series is not that far away....Q4 2013/ Q1 2014 so by the time you recoup your costs the next gen will be releasing.

I speak as someone who has 3 GTX 680's and am not considering upgrading for these exact reasons. I also speak from experience of getting a chance to play with the Titian while at work.
