OK. So until now I was seriously considering making my own PC with the Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 and an Intel Core i5 3570K. However with the recent release of Haswell and the 700 series. I am considering getting the newer versions.

Upgrading will cost me over $150 extra (in Australia) and I am already over my budget.
I want to know if it is seriously worth it and it will help if someone can understand that $1200 on a build is already quite a bit to me.

How about a 770+3570k? Haswell doesn't seem to be that much better on the desktop.

If you are going to play in 1080p get the 670. Otherwise get the 770. As for CPU 3570k is still plenty powerful and equal to the 4670 when you over clock.

I have a 670 and it eats all games at max. Is the 770 supposed to be inferior? Strange....

From what Ive read they upgraded the integrated GPU part of the Haswell (significant improvement) series so It's safe to say you should go with the 3570K and you wont miss anything really important from the newer CPU in gaming.
I think with GPU you must answer yourself how much money you are willing to throw in... remember from 770 there is always 780 ^^

The 770 are pretty much an overclocked GTX680. The kicker is teh GTX770 is $50 cheaper than the GTX680. So actual the GTX770 is around the same price as the GTX670, but performs better than the GTX680. I'm going buy neweggs prices.. Can you tell me the price difference between the 770 and 670? If your savings is mostly from the processor then get the i5 3570k and the 770, but if the 670 is where your saving is then get the 670. The 670 can be overclocked to a gtx680 as well. You really can't go wrong with either setup. :toast:

Go all new, why the hell not, just get the GTX 770 & i5-4670K once and far all then sit back and enjoy your rig.

I'm personally in the transition my self, will be getting an i7-4770 non K, Intel Board DZ87KLT-75K, EVGA GTX 770 SC 2GB, LG Bluray Burner & Already Got the new set of Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) 1600MHz C9.

Coming from a i7-3770 non K, EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2GB, Intel Board DZ68BC, Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) 1600MHz C10, LG DVD Burner.

It will be more of a side grade, but my reason for side grading is coz i intend to keep the new setup for good and if in the future decide to get new tech i will build a whole new rig without getting rid of it.

And more of i do it while i can, i might know what new tech is coming out in the future but i tell my self we are not there yet so i get the new tech now.

Thank you everyone for the quick reply. I understand that a lot of the people have opted for the newer choice, but my budget is very limited. I am going off prices from mwave.com.au , an Australian website. Our 770 is about $70 more than the 670. I want to know whether the 670 will last me long enough alone, as I don't plan to spend so much on another gaming rig for the next two years.
The 780 is an amazing option, being a titan-related GK110 card, but I'm just not going to be able to afford it.

If you are going to stick with 1080p the 670 will last.

770 is just an overclocked 680 with fancy memory chips. If you can afford a 770, you should get one. But the 670 is an awesome 1080p card by all standards.

Haswell is 5-10% faster than Ivy in best case scenarios. The only truly superior thing about Haswell is that its IGPU is about 50% better than the IGPU Ivy uses, so no, for most people "upgrading" to Haswell is nothing but a waste of money. As to answer the question about is getting a GTX770 worth it over a GTX670, that depends on price. If you can find a GTX770 that isn't significantly more than a GTX670 then yes, otherwise its a waste of money again really. Essentially you can look at the GTX770 as a GTX680 as the GTX770 has a identical amount of stream processors, texture units and ROPs as well as having the same bus width and same amount of onboard video memory.

3570k is fine, particularly if you are able to clock it, and the 670 is still a very good graphics card.

In any case keep the CPU get the best deal on a GPU. No reason to go Haswell.

Thanks again. Right now most say that it would be best to get the 3570K with either a 670 or 770. I have an old Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP, which supports DVI-D and 1200p. I intend to use 1080p on EVERYTHING (inc. desktop) as some games can cost you a lot of performance if pushed above that level. Having it constantly change resolution can also be a bummer. If you think 1200p is really that good then I may as well boost it and buy the 770. In the mean time, even I don't know how the 670 will continue to perform at 1080p.

It is already a year old, and I want to max out games like BF4 at a very playable FPS (approx. 40-50+ FPS). I really don't want to spend 1.2K on a build, but then have it beaten by a PS4 in 2 years.

What do you think on the resolutions?

My 4770K at 4.3GHz is actually about 15% better than my 3770K at 4.3GHz in Team Fortress 2, a pretty CPU bottlenecked game that doesn't max out any of the threads but I guess the game is coded to calculate things that are held up by specific routines in the processor I guess. I tested with a pre-recorded demo and my 3770K got 121 FPS average while the 4770K got 137 FPS average and it was free of many of the major FPS drops at 120Hz that I saw with the 3770K.

Haswell has new instructions (AVX2, FMA3, etc.), a new socket, all SATA 6Gb/s ports, a new 32nm PCH vs. the old 65nm one used by LGA 1155, 8 execution ports per core versus 6 previously, better branch prediction and other tweaks/improvements. Yes, it does run somewhat hotter than Ivy Bridge, but it still overclocks quite well.

TF2 is old as all hell I haven't had any spikes you mention you sure your system just didn't need a format\total driver update? The other points are moot really as well, 32nm vs 65nm PCH and new socket.. I fail to see how they are anything but side notes, execution ports and branch prediction useful, but wasted on 4 cores. This review does a good job of showing the differences between a 4770k, 3770k, and even the 3570k. Theres not a lot of difference between any of them. Probably the only test to really look at is the cinebench results as thats a raw crunch test really, 3770k hits around 7.5, 4770k about 8.

I've played TF2 on a garden variety of systems (starting with an Athlon 64 X2 and Radeon 9700 Pro at a whopping 13 FPS in 2008) and I have never had any of my systems run it as good as my Haswell chip. My Windows 7 install was fresh for the 3770K in December and I have always used the latest drivers for my 7970 with no difference in performance. I play with VSYNC at 120Hz and I know when the CPU is "bottlenecking" the game because the FPS doesn't drop to 60, but it jitters down into the low 100s and sometimes as low as 85 on a full 28 player pub. Just because it's an old game doesn't mean that Valve hasn't added 4 years of hats, weapons and cosmetics along with a ton of other junk that progressively slowed the game down. Back in 2009 I was getting 50-60 FPS with a Phenom X4 9750 @ 2.8GHz + 9800 GT, and my Phenom II X4 X920/Radeon 5650m doesn't even do that good anymore to this day, with drops down into the sub-20 FPS range from 60 FPS.

Benchmark Scores Fast. I don't need epeen.

Old software simply means its not going to take full advantage of some hardware features. I don't know why you had that weird issue but theres plenty of reasons why you experienced it, none of which would of had anything to do with your CPU being the bottleneck.

Or you could buy a 7970 for ~$350 on amazon (used/refurb), sell it in 2 years for $150 and buy another $300-350 card.
