I think i'll pass current generation and its refreshes altogether and just wait for DirectX 12 solutions.
I'm also sure they'll be 2x as fast as my current card so it will be even better. And NVIDIA will have some time to implement FXAA even better for that...

But if you compare benches from a 12.3 or 12.4CCC to these results I am sure you will get a much different result. Showing a HD 7970/7950 benching much higher than shown.

I think it's way too soon to say this. And AMD GPUs has stayed on top of things for quite some time now so I don't think they are in that much trouble. Yet.

Yeah, apart from that, look at last gen.

Nvidia won that too.

You had something like this 580>570=6970>6950=560Ti etc etc

This time round it's 680>7970>7950

This may well turn out again to be 680>670=7970

There's no great change in the power play. Except there is...

The 680>7970 isn't true. As 20mm rightly says and he's a great guy for doing so, the 680 and 7970 are really very close. The 580 kicked the 6970's ass in pretty much everything.

The 7970 kicks the 680's ass by 20% or more in a few decent titles.

The status quo this time is actually in AMD's favour. Their top tier single gpu is on decent ground with the NV top single card.

I would say the 670 is more of a problem for the 680. The price will have to be very tactical.

And once again, special praise to 20mmrain for being so egalitarian about the two cards. Well done mate. :toast:

They might just do that. They've got a pretty big empty space between the $500-1000 price points.

Agreed. Quite likely to happen, especially if AMD opts to price the 7990 at $850.

That's why GK110 would be coming sooner rather than later.

At this point it is quite clear the GK110 isn't ready yet due to 28nm yields. ;)
Also there is very little incentive for nVidia to release the GK110 in this generation, given that they can make more money selling GK104s.

The performance graphs are now showing on the TweakTown review. I'd say people should hold off buying a GTX 680 until they've looked at these properly - the GTX 670's performance is really excellent.

Awesome if those numbers hold true. Also, I feel really bad for anyone who bought a 7970 recently, especially if the 670 is going to cost $399 like most people hope. Dang.

early adoptors beware lol. In the end those that did got to enjoy hgiher performance while those that waited were still on older solutions so it balances out. Still though 400$ and beating the 7970 is pretty nice.

cant wait for these to drop in price... this thing doesnt look too costly to make.

Lets just hope TSMC can make enough chips.

and for that reason im out, too damn dear, and nvidia are takeing the piss selling what is a cheap card to make for the soddin earth again
does this round even include any mainstream gpu's from nvidia(200UKsquidlies max) wtf ,the price of this and the 680 are into enthusiast territory in my eyes ,that and the moneys nothing crowd, and again i think some are over egging the problem AMD faces, for months and months they were on top of the heap on their own and even now they are capable of outshining nvidia with this card (in the right persons eyes(folder)) plus they Have competitive (cost/peformance) sku's at every price point and havent flipped between two BS states of PR all year (tsmc is great , err can samsung make me some chips pls) i dont see either as a clear winner.

had nvidia brought a full 6xx series out when they were supposed to they might have won it but with this much arseing about and stock chaseing ,I believe its slipped away from them, theyre still focused on denver and GK110 while AMD must be very close to 8xxx tap out despite three processor launches in that time and several different Gpu Archs

670 does look good and theyll make money ,but im not buying what looks to be a gt 540 with a big boy cooler for that doe and nvidia dropped a ball, i was going to buy a 660 or 650 for hybrid physx, itll be a 550 or 560 now as its Better then their new shit for that purpose

now that be an understatement right there.

?

I know there was a sentence there, but I see no beginning and no ending.

As far as "winning," I agree with the sentiment I seem to be reading. Nvidea came late to the party, has extremely poor availability, and lacks any entries in the mid-range cards. AMD beat Nvidea to the punch, and is now paying the performance price for releasing early. There is no winner, as the increase in performance is only seen by people willing to spend 400 USD or more on a GPU. As the consumers who can actually afford that strata of pricing are minimal, AMD won't be hurting too badly in the very near future.

Did people forget what segment these cards are in

Enthusiast or High-End
AMD
-7970 = $479
-7950 = $399

NVIDIA
-680 = $499
-670 = $399

Mainstream or Mid-Range
AMD
-7870 = $349
-7850 = $249

NVIDIA
-660 Ti = $?
-660 = ?

Budget or Entry-level
AMD
-7770 = $139
-7750 = $109

AMD and Nvidia are selling to different crowds at the same time with-in those segments. Nvidia is going for the Gamer oriented this time since they took out the GP"in"GPU <-
While AMD stuck to the tradition method and improved it. Nvidia went a new direction.

Sure people who just want to game would find the 670 more attractive due to its performance and price but what customers will it draw in. The AMD crowd or the Nvidia crowd. AMD crowd arent going to be that much inticed since there mostly purchasing for the Architectual advantages over the Kepler and not just the gaming aspect. They might get a few but i doubt it be that many from the "Enthusiast" who keep inform on the architectual disparities between the two camps. My bet is the Nvidia crowd who are price concience. Judging by the performce to the 680 the 670 just undercuts it.

680 owners will be price gouged more then they were from retailers. 5-7% performance differance on a base OC 670. The standard margin of error is 3% so its almost 5-7% for $100+. I believe that the Sandy-Bridge to Ivy-Bridge was greater % wise and look at the threads there over a $10-$20 differance. Takes out the Enthusiasm in Enthusiast eh? :toast:

7950 seems to be stuck in a bad situation. I don't know if they could lower the price too much without also affecting the 7870
