Hello All,

So I have questions regarding the 780 Classified vs. 780 SC. I have been looking at the prices of both and with tax there is a difference of $100 between the two (cheapest SC, one vendor does not charge tax vs. the two vendors that have the Classified, and charge tax). I am planning on running two of these in SLI.

Here are my choices.
Classified: http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-3788-KR
SC: http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-2784-KR

Is it worth it to go with to Classified and spend the extra $100 (x2) or should I just go with the SC?
Would I see a large performance difference between the two?
Could I just OC the SC to the Classifieds MHz?

Thank you in advance for the responses.

Unless you intend to use the evga voltage tuner device, the classified is provably a waste of money, you're likely to get similar overclocks

Classy goes up to 1.35v, depends on what you value and how much you overclock.

SC is locked to 1.212v.

I've seen people reach as high as 1350+ MHz on other forums with the classy ofc.

If you are just planning to play games then I would go with the cheaper of the two. If you are wanting to benchmark and try to break records then go with the Classified.

But Classified have 100% 20-30% better cooling and much durable for OC,
two BIOS and EVBot connector.
I see that as difference in one AA level. For one year I will easier pump Classified to 1200MHz and cooled if I need every percent for filters in games. And Classified is rare nicer card for 3 months you will not remember for 40$+40$ more than for SC ACX.
780 SC ACX is excellent to. I was ready to buy 780 SC ACX in first days if only that model show in Serbia.
I would buy than. But when I have chance to pay to people who go in USA and wait them than I give money for Classified and forgot on EVBot and backplate that I need to order over frozen or PPC.

the extra $100 wont buy you an extra AA level it might buy you 5 more FPS over the SC variant on average. As always overclocking is a silicon lottery

Just because you buy the best of the best doesnt mean you magically always get better performance.

My experiences with ASUS TOP series of cards and there multitude of issues and removal of features and lack of proper fixes springs to mind.

Overall. most cards are hitting 1030-1060 core at 1.212v which makes gives a nice boost considering stock core clock is only 863. the Classified might let you hit 1350 but if every card did that you would here more about it.

first one seems about average second one is better than average. Then again reference cards even at higher clocks perform worse compared to aftermarket cards seems to be a difference in PCB or design in general.

You can hit far higher speeds then 1030-1060 without doing any voltage bumps. At stock voltage (1.15) my 780 runs at 1137.

Yeah, I thought 780's clocked better than Titans. My Titan OC's to 1100 on stock volts. Currently running a fairly stable 1150 at 1.2v (no modded bios).

Pretty sure most 780's should hit towards 1100.

It's irrelevant though. The point of the classified is to play around with it. It's not for gaming as such. Same as the Lightning. They're enthusiast toys and designed to be tweaked and excessively cooled and BIOS flashed (thus the spare BIOS setting).

Go for the cheapest.

If you plan doing SLI I advise you to with reference model, the heat exahsuts through the back of case. The reference cooler of 780/titan is just great. And as stated above with reference cards you get boost clock above 1000 Mhz (although they offically annound max 902 Mhz). I have seen this also on a stock MSI reference 780, with normal clock 863 but in afterburner during intense gaming boost clocks goes to 993 Mhz.

Im not talking boost clocks talking base clock. Going by W1zzards reviews 1030-1060 seems to be the average in terms of the base clock being overclocked I dont bother with max Kepler boost clocks since in many games they fluctuate and in that regard are rather irrelevant.

I use the Nvidia engineering BIOS, it keeps my GPU pegged at max clock when it's stressed at 99% and I can get 1202 MHz stable on both cards at 1.212v.

The Zotac one I have seems like a special snowflake, does 1228MHz lol.

I 100% agree with you though, it's just a lottery.

I didn't look last few days on EVGA Forum because I can't look any more until wait my card because than became impatience but few of them are 1250-1320MHz I think I saw and 1350MHz.
I don't know how is for SLI but for me 40e is invisible one in 2 years for card I wish.
But and if someone buy 4 card that's 150-160$ on almost 2500$ worth of Classified if you ask me but that must decide someone who buy.

Like I say I was ready to buy 780 SC ACX but only in first days before they launch Classified, then why, 50$ or euro is 3 120mm fans.
And I love to look that monster next 2 year.

For me, I would not be doing any extreme OC'ing (like using EVbot to change voltages). I just want a GPU that is already OC'ed. I would only being gaming.

Whichever GTX 780 you find better looking / has higher stock clocks / produces less noise / runs cooler is fine for you then :)

No gains on buying the Classy if you are not going to tweak.

Yes if you don't want to OC with EVBot later than GTX780 SC ACX clock is not far from Classified.
Than save money.

If you want to OC than go on overclock.net 780 Classified owners club, card is destroyer, most models are over 1250-1300MHz bencmarking with nice temps.
And picture of card inside PC is incredible, I never saw such nice non reference card.

my Evga 780 ACX SC hits 1228 core. spending an extra $150 to get the classified version just for 100mhz more is not worth it. 5fps difference at most.

+1 to the "classified is not worth it" camp

My two ACX SC cards, stock settings, run boosted at 1110 MHz constantly in games (I have never seen this fluctuate, ever). I see no reason to pay the extra money for a small bump unless you are benchmarking, as others have said (benchmarks are the only place you are going to notice a difference).

IMO the ACX SC card from EVGA is the best 780 variant released so far... good looks, quiet and cool operation, and as fast out of the box as many stock cards at their maximum OC.

This part I do not agree, it's basically the same lottery for every card, I can bet every single reference 780 can hit SC clocks without any issue.

It was like that for the Titan / Titan SC and it's 99% probably true for 780.
