GTX 780 SLI vs GTX 880(Ti)?

Hello, I have the possibility to buy a second ASUS GTX 780 DIRECTCU II(used) for $345. Would it be a better idea to wait for the 800 series to be announced, or would it be smarter to go SLI, save money but potentially have driver issues, and more heat/power/noise? I ask this because I have never had a SLI setup, but I heard that the new GTX 880 is not going to be that much faster than current GPUs (rumors).
So, what do you think? (PSU is a Corsair 850W 80+GOLD, so no problem there).
PS: I am playing at 1440p/120Hz, and the second GTX780 would certainly help in some games.

If you can, wait. If 880 is released in next month or so, the 780 prices may drop and/or the 880 may offer better performance and value.
It always comes down to the release date of the next new thing.

Your specs mention that you have a 680 and not a 780, even if you do, I still wouldn't suggest paying $345 for an almost past gen card. Wait for the 880.

I kinda doubt you'll get a 780 for much less than $345 after the 880 are released. They are still selling for more than $400 now. I would offer the guy $325 and buy the card if he accepted the offer.

The GTX 780 is an incredibly powerful GPU equaling and in some instances besting 2 GTX 760's in SLI. GPU technology is way ahead of new game-engine tech so I'd say grab another GTX 780 if you can still get it at that amazing price. Our GTX 700-class GPUs will support DirectX 12 so no worries there. The only concern I have is that 3GB of GDDR5 is great for 2560x1600 and under but the GTX 880 will probably have 6GB which is excellent for 4K gaming.

880GTX will be a 256bit card, how is that good for 4k gaming?

what about memory speeds? That plays pretty big part in memory bandwidth. But I would much prefer to see the 880 with 512 bit bus with 4gb at say effective 6ghz-7ghz but that gpu would huge and expensive. Hopefully that'll be saved for big die Maxwell.

Nope. Its been pretty much "confirmed" that GTX880 is a 4GB 256 bit bus card on GM204 Mid range Maxwell Silicon. Just like GTX680 was, though it was 2GB 256 bit on GK104.

IMO, I think Pascal will be what to get in regards to 4k gaming (or what AMD releases to compete with it).

But back to what the OP is more concerned about, I definitely think if you can get another 780 for a good price id jump on it. Roll with the 780 SLI till big die Maxwell is out (GTX980 im thinking) or Pascal.

No specifications on the 880 have been proven final.
