Well Toms did it again! In their latest review of 1070 from the Nvidia team they have also found 1070 draws over the 75watt limit of PCIE slots. Well what's the difference this time? If it is AMD then all hell broke loose. Now NV has been exposed of doing this as well for their FE card, all I can hear is crickets chirping.

Spikes are super common and was not the issue. The issue was constant average power draw over 75W.

Jesus, how many times should this be repeated.

Just giving nvidia some of the pcie gate love as well.

Except it's not because small spikes over aren't unrealistic. That graph probably looks a lot like the RX 480 after AMD fixed it.

Will nvidia fix this that is the question. Probably NV will just release a statement saying users don't need to concern with it too much. A statement maybe too much though. It requires a 3.5GB VRAM gate to warrant a statement from NV.

The question I have for you is "What will they fix?". Since you have misunderstood the whole problem and is crying wolf for no reason.

Here are some aspects to keep in mind:
  • Capacitors deals well with noisy spikes, they are not really an issue.
  • Spikes are most certainly enhanced by the equipment used to measure it, since they are so very brief.
  • But most importantly, the problem lies with the average power draw.

I htink you're missing the point, there is nothing for NV to fix.

go back and look at GTX 9xx / r9 3xx and older generations, power SPIKES will always happen, controllers aren't fast enough to react to instant power request properly. you have essentially started a thread to bash a company for a "error" you found that is not an error at all and expected behavior.

The problem with AMD cards is the averages was well above 75W, not just spiking over the limit but staying there constantly sucking more power.

Source: I work as an EE at a measurement devices company and this is literally my career.

Atleast I know where the problem lies, and its not in the 1070 FE....

You should really read up on the measurements and the theory behind it before you start these kinds of threads.

you're still missing my point. it is totally valid to draw up to 75W on PCIe, there is nothing wrong with that, as that is what it is rated for. In that rating is also a spec for over power spikes that it is expected to handle.

your statement only shows that MSI has a 6+8 pin power and therefore draws mostly all of its power directly from the PSU instead of the PCIe power that is available.

I'll make this clear again since you don't understand, There isn't anything wrong with the graph you showed, it is below spec with expected spikes for a power controller. I am an EE who works at a company that creates measurement instruments and I do this day in day out so I kind of know a little bit about what i'm talking about here. If you don't trust what i'm saying then idk what to tell you besides you are being somewhat ignorant if you continue to think there is a problem with that graph after you read this.

The FE card uses a single 6 Pin power paired with PCIe Power which you are comparing to an MSI card that uses 6+8 pin power and a tad of PCIe power and saying that you conclude the MSI uses less PCIe power so therefore it is doing it right while NV is doing it wrong. this conclusion of yours is just missing just a little bit of something called logic.
