Well figured out the stuttering problem in BC2, just dropped down to dx10 and it ran perfect, hopefully adding the second card for sli will help in dx11

The 1gb isnt just more memory its a ever so slightly better card.
1gb has 256bit bus, the 768mb has 192bit.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-460-review/2

and 32 ROPS versus 24, all in all the 256mb more memory, 64-bit higher memory bus and 8 more ROPS should provide the card with a decent amount more grunt, especially with AA on.

the 768mb card makes for a better value proposition at the moment, but I'd take the 1gb cards anyday, my last few cards have been 1gb or more, I wouldn't step backward now.

More memory would be much more beneficial to you since you're gaming at 1080 (though any screen under 24" that supports 1080 is kind of a waste since the difference over 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 on that small of a screen is hard to tell apart).

Actually I game at 1920x1080 on a 20" HP monitor and there's a huge difference.

The image is a lot much more clear versus 1680x1050, and the textures in the game look more detailed.

Try installing MSI afterburner (fi you havn't already) and enable the in game display. I have noticed memory usage on my 1GB GTX460 to top over 700mb in certain sections of BC2 (running 1680x1050 4xAA, 16xAF everything maxed in game). It could be the slight stuttering is the card running right on its memory limit or breaching it briefly.

If this is the cause then SLI won't help as you will still be lacking enough memory.

You have me tempted now.. dont know if I game enough to justify it atm but my 4870 isnt quite doing justice to my system atm - how future proof would you say these cards are? Also how much better is it having two of them eh ;-) worth the extra £££?

Ah, you got 3 slots pace in there. Those with temp "issue" in SLI propably had 2. Looking good and running even better it seems :D

I went from 5770(=4870) to this and performance difference is quite big. I wouldn't say a mainstream card is future proofing, it's just there until GTX 560 comes out. But 2 of these sure would be :) 2x768MB could be the sweet spot with price/performance, but just ran GTA IV and my settings used 948MB of video memory.. :) (real usage with afterburner, not ingame stat)

If you got the dosh, go for 2, if you don't game enough go for one to start with. These thing will get you gaming more :D

Yep, that's why I said 768MB would be sweet spot in price/performace, but would ran out of memory is some games. Although Wizzard didn't ran out in almost anything, so it might just be GTA IV that needs that much :)

I have not had any problems with the frame buffer and have the Vanilla EVGA model overclocked to 800 core and 1600 shader. I am playing at 1080p and I know that if memory becomes a problem I will just drop FSAA altogether, sit back several feet from my 32" 1080p HDTV, and not even notice the difference. The card works well with my I7 920. A second one would be nice. I'm hoping the 768 cards become less desirable and start to sell dirt cheap so I can have some real cheap SLI action in the future. You see it is a calculated risk. ;)

We'll see about GTA4. I bought it months ago and haven't even tried it yet. Been busy with Dragon Age that this card simply plays 60 solid.

Interesting especially considering you are running a higher resolution.

I can only assume that I am seeing similar memory usage levels as I am running the DX11 codepath rather than DX10. I will try changing it to DX10 to see if the memory usage drops.

You gotta try it, great game. Just started couple days back my self :) So make it the next one on the list =)

But Dragon Age was pure awesomeness and almost never ending (think it was like 80h+ to play though, can't find my character on bioware page to check). GTA4 is 20% with 10h, so a bit less.
