GTX580 on 1980x1080

Hello. I just wanted to ask a shamefully stupid question... :p

My rig is using a single 580GTX with HDMI to a Samsung DTV monitor at 1980x1080. I also have a Samsung Syncmaster monitor at 1650x1080 connected via DVI. Both are LCD.

When playing Crysis 2 with Ultra graphics settings on the Syncmaster, all is fine.

The television seems to produce a significantly better quality image than the Syncmaster. But when using the Television I get very noticeable frame rate reduction during some movement and with increased action.

Should I see such a significant reduction in image quality/performance when switching between the two?

Am I expecting too much of a single card?

1680*1050 = 1,764,000 pixels
1920*1080 = 2,073,600 pixels

1764000/2073600 = 85.07%, so your frame rate is probably about 15% less with the higher resolution television than with the monitor.

GTX 580 is plenty for a single 1920*1080 monitor but a GTX 670/680 should be faster for gaming.

Hi

This may be the 24Hz Crysis bug that effects HDTV's @ 1920x1080, try setting 1920x1076@60 as custom resolution in the NV control panel and setting this ingame.

yep its normal to get a hit when your raise the resolution don't worry, my friends GTX580/2500K pc gets about 45 - 58fps in intense fights with crysis 2 and he has a 1920x1080 monitor also so it does get a little sluggish but its not too bad really.

As pretty much everyone else said this is pretty normal. I'd be worried if the syncmaster screen had less fps than the hdtv.

The picture will look nicer on the hdtv because of the higher resolution but the pixel-per-inch count is probably lower on the hdtv so if you go up really close to the hdtv you can probably distinguish jagged edges of displayed objects more easily than if you were to try to distinguish jagged edges on the syncmaster.

If you want more performance, you could try many things like new drivers, overclocking your graphics card, upgrading graphics card etc.
