It was in 2010 but not so much nowadays. It's a power hungry card, dissipates lots of heat and only has 1.5GB of VRAM. I wouldn't recommend it unless found really cheap for basic gaming (low settings or older games).

It's slower than the GTX 950, so maybe it's on par with the GT1030.

Hello guys,

Is GTX580 a powerful card?

Regard so.
I do not recommend buying it, if you were to.
Look for later generation cards, GTX950 or newer as others mentioned.

Even if they are equal , a 580 draws like four times as much power. Not to mention that most 580s are probably on their last breath due to age and how hot they run.

So to OP , don't bother. Look for a RX560 , GTX 1050ti. Or GT 1030 for that matter.

I do not recommend the OP buying a 580, I'm just curious how these cards Qubit got compare.

I am waiting for benchmarks GTX580 VS GTX1030.

I expect GTX580 to win EASY. Looking at the few benchmarks i found, it seems that GT1030 is slower than GTX750 Ti anywhere from 10 to 33 %. Knowing from Techpowerup reviews that GTX660 is equal to GTX580 in performance and that GTX660 is 20 % faster than GTX750 Ti (again from Techpowerup reviews) this should easily elevate the prognosis of GTX580 crushing GT1030.

The GT cards barely seem to progress at all so I wouldn't be too surprised. Still curious to see a comparison though :D.

The 580 trades blows with a 960 pending the benchmark.. They're very close.

Way off the mark. The 960 is about the same level as the 680 which is 40% faster than a 580.

Hello OP and welcome to TPU. Would it be acceptable for you to give us a bit more details on why you need this info? Do you consider buying it second hand? Is your budget severely constrained? or something else? I am not sure about the Fermi, but Kepler took a big blow with support or more like lack of it. There are zero improvements to these series now.

Still not the same. GTX580 has got nothing on GTX950. Synthetic tests don't mean anything. Adding to Crapp Daddy's pointed correct numbers here is how it looks:

GTX580 and GTX660 = 75 % performance
GTX760 and GTX950 = 90 % performance
GTX960 and GTX680 and GTX1050 Ti = 100 % performance with GTX1050 Ti being slightly above.

I expect GT1030 to hit somewhere at 40 %.

qubit, how many games have got to test?

580 should be fine for most competitive games now, but it will be power hungry. If you want to play eye candy AAA games with ultra settings maxed out and high resolution then you will be disappointed. But if you want to play CS Go or LoL you will have no problems, it will run it easily. Probably even Overwatch. I think you can even run GTA V with 1080P as long as you run low-medium settings.
