GTX 980 Ti Strix OC vs GTX 1070 Strix OC benchmarks

I think the 1070 has the better efficiency in terms of Watt versus FPS. But in terms of new purchase, I think you get the 980ti cheaper and in games you do not notice for the first time any difference. What is certain, reference cards are getting louder and hotter. The 1070 will certainly be less noisy, since less hot, since less power consumption

They are not.


If you look for overclocked GTX980 Ti vs overclocked GTX1070 in youtube, you will find GTX980 Ti winning or at least a tie, but never a GTX1070 win.

I give shit about stock GTX980 Ti. Seriously, i am getting sick of youtube videos comparing stock GTX980 Ti vs whatever aftermarket GTX1070... That should never be done!

When GTX2070 will be released, it will be tested vs stock GTX1080 and i can bet my ass that GTX2070 will win, because everyone will be lazy afraid or just suck balls to compare GTX1080 OC vs GTX2070 OC straight away.

Im amazed the 980ti overcame such deficits to pull out minor wins. As your second vid said though, you wouldnt notice. Im sure people would take the 1070 over the 980ti though if only for the massive power difference.

May I ask why you use very low AA settings in (most) of these games? Especially the ones with sky high fps...

Wondering of using higher settings it would matter. The 980ti was always a brute, but wondering why your results seem to differ...tpus testing showed reference to reference at 2560x1440 is 12% in favor of the 1070. Many sites are in that ballpark, in fact.

look at the tpu review... you can see these results there too.

Because factory OC and GPU Boost 3.0 really do matter a lot on Pascal, and on Maxwell that still needs to be done by moving the sliders yourself.

The GTX 980 Ti is still a great card I do prefer the GTX 1070 in the Pascal architecture they r very similar in performance as seen in @Artas1984 test but the 1070 only consumes about 150watt vs 250watt of the 980 Ti.

Only talking about Nvidia's ref and fe cards here not custom because they can have low/same/higher power consumption.

Yeah, in the end a 40% overclock on the core for a 980ti is massive. Besting the 1070 by nearly 7%.

Im wondering if that (1070) card actually held the boost clocks he listed or peaked there and ran less...when we reviewed the 1070 strix several weeks ago, in a 22c open air environment, it settles at 1974 Mhz.

So just stock no overclocking on both....

So i tried to overclock GTX1070 from it's default 1633 MHz base clock to 1724 MHz base clock, which is the maximum Asus GPU II Tweak allows, which resulted in the maximum 2088 MHz boost clock, and every second tested game crashes, despite adding +100 mV and increasing power target to 120 %. This is a failed matter and forget it. If i can not overclock the card to a mere 91 MHz, i sure as heck won't bother with lower overclock.

I tested some games in windowed mode and GTX1070 kept it's 2025 MHz boost clock all the way. Sometimes i would see 2037 MHz for a second.

Windowed mode isnt typically as stressful... you would need to have a graph running while testing and look back after for the most accurate results. Mine happenend to peak at that same boost bin your riding constant at.

As far as overclocking goes. Dont brute force it...these dont lime to be spanked, but caressed . Ive only had 1 1070 run over 2100 mhz. I bet its stable with less voltage added and less clocks.

I've upgraded my GTX980 Ti to GTX1080. I won't bother now with the results, but you should expect a 20 % FPS increase. I also bought a 4K TV, so in the future i will make some 4K benchmarks. That means i will have GTX980 Ti Strix OC, GTX1070 Strix OC, and Evga GTX1080 SC Gaming 2160P and 1440P results. The only thing left to get is GTX1080 Ti. But that will be after i will sell my both GTX980 Ti and GTX1070 video cards. It's amazing that GTX1080 uses just single 8 pin power connector.

I did forget to test Doom (OpenGL) at 2560X1440, all settings max/ultra, SMAA.
