Guide to Radeon X800/X850 bios modding

It is normal because you need 2 things in order to open some pipes on X8x0 core:
1. Correct fuses
2. Proper flash command line (flash program)

Without one of the above things you can have moddable card but to remain with limited pipe number.

The most important step is to determine that the fuse values are "correct" for unlocking and only if it is possible to decide how and what BIOS to flash ;) .

So, I've got my fuses posted above. Evidently they are no good for unlocking pipes?

Hi to all,
i have a big problem.
I have a HIS X800 GTO iceq, with r480 and 12 pipelines active.
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFF7FFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9E
I have modified the bios, and flashed the rom. When i reboot windows, the pipelines are still 12, but in the bios are sblocked: 6002.
Can someone help me?

CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFF7FFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9E
fuses SAY no more pipes for you .....But the 480 will overclock very nicely for sure 520 core 540 mem with stock cooling & 100% fan.. mabe better with after market cooler ..F

Thanks men... i've made an heavyer overclock: 628 core and 600 memories

I bought a Sapphire x800gto agp off eBay, it came with the last quad unlocked. However, it crashes whenever I scan for artifacts at default clock. Also ATI Tool shows it as R480, while RaBiT shows it as R423??? Its got the 1.6 Samsung memory. Any thoughts?

Edit - Forgot to give you info from ATI Tool

Device ID 5D4F
Chip Name R480
Catalyst Version Omega 7.01
Active Pipelines 16
Default GPU Clock 400.00 MHz
Default Mem Clock 490.00 MHz
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x260
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x3FE4

RaBiT shows:
Device ID: 5D4F Radeon X800/X850 series (R423)
SubSystem ID: 5600
SubVendor ID: 174B Sapphire Technology Ltd.

need any other info?

Maybe a wrong flashing... re-flash it by yourself!

What would be the correct bios for this card? And is it a R480 or R423, is there any way to tell aside from removing the HSF?

Welcome to TPU :toast:
you can find all bios here
http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/
you will need to know the memory chips on the card to select the right one .
and you should also remove the heatsink to check the core to be sure of the chip
then folloiw the guide
http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/127
and post you results
Good luck :D ,,,F

I confirm you that is a R480 core and 1.6 memories.

Ok, I confirmed by pulling off the HSF, it is a R480 and it is 1.6 Samsung memory, so this means I should be able to flash to x850 xtpe correct? Does it matter which card manufacturer's bios I use?

If your card has blue board then use that utility: http://savefile.com/projects/733218 but reading the flash instructions. If your card has red board then attach copy of your BIOS here and I will change it to recognize the card correctly.

Thanks dolf! It is the blue board. Will this change the stability since I have been unable to reach R480 speeds or the rated Samsung 1.6 memory speeds?

OK, I used the flash utility, and flashed it, uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers, but I still cannot clock to the R480 default clock. As a matter of fact, when I scan for artifacts at default X800GTO speeds, I get a black screen after a couple of minutes. Previously when I tried to raise the clock on the memory, I got a screen with colors and a lot of nonsense all over it. Is this a bad quad?

I can't even reach 10,000 with some pretty heavy overclocking. I could probably bump up my CPU, but I shouldn't have to.

Should I uninstall Omega and try it with Catalyst 7.4? I think I should just settle for what my system is and live with it until I get a new dual core system someday.

UPDATE: Just out of sheer agitation because FarCry is still choppy on medium settings, I uninstalled the Omega drivers, returned my CPU to stock speeds, and installed Catalyst 7.4 display drivers only.

Using ATITool to OC my x800 to 430:520 just as a safe OC, I scored just a bit under 10,000. This is much better, and I can probably push my x800 to 450:550. There must be something wrong with FarCry. It doesn't seem to be an FPS problem. There must be something else running in the background that's impeding.

  based on your results from the flash wiht Dolf's utility &&&& the above ...you have recieved a broken card from Ebay if you paid with pay pal start a claim for a refund and also Email the seller and :nutkick: :nutkick: :slap: for RIPPING you off and demand you money back Luck

Its not Farcry IT's the Omega drivers sometimes they just don't like the card and just don't behave stick with the Cats and run the CPU back up the Mark it:D

But it was choppy with just Catalyst. I don't think it's the x800 or FarCry now.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Watching the temps in ATI Tool, it reaches almost 80 deg C right before it crashes, I took HSF off again and applied new thermal paste to it and made extra sure it was seated correctly...is this definitely a bad card or could it just be a bad HSF that an upgrade could help? I've already emailed the seller to request a refund because he guaranteed not DOA. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Have you tryed to test if the fan runs correctly?

yeah, its running at 100%, I'm just grasping at straws, thanks for the help guys...

 :( no an after market cooler won't help that card
FYI most of those cards came with 12 pipes .... the early ones were 480 cores that had a Bad set of pipes ..these pipes the exrta 4 were disabled [in bios] giving you a 12 pipe card... modding the bios renabled the pipes ..but F**k the card & it can't be undone ...thus a 16 pipe card that is F'ked ...==ebay sale  hope that you get your refund  F

Can someone help me please

I have a Sapphire X800 GTO ULTIMATE PCIE Card and can't unlock the Bio's to flash it to they R480 it's got a R423 and i want to be able to get better clocking speeds out of it as I'm only getting 448 from the core & 568 from Ram. Dose anyone know how to unlock the bio's as i keep getting this message when i try to Flash 0FL01 I've tryed to force bio's and same message over & over again. I've used ATItools to see if the card can be modded and the code from this sight matches. PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE:banghead:

Just a update still can't get card to flash but got some info from ATITools to add as it sames that this card is a r480.

Device ID: 5D4F
Chip Name:R480
Catalyst Virsion:7.3
Momery Size:256MB
Momery Type:DDR3
Momery Bus Width:256 Bit
Active Pipelines:16
Default GPU Clock:400.00Mhz
Default Mem Clock:490.00Mhz
Config_Die_Fuses:0XFFFFFFFF
Config_Substrate_Fuses:0XFFFFFF9F
Config_Rom_Fuses:0X260
GB_Pipe_Select:0X3FE4

Since I've got the 16 pipes open can anyone tell me why I can only get 465.75 Core/570.38Mem Max and it says i'm getting around 242FPS Which I think is Bull.
If anyone has a Card like this and has got a better clocking speed out of it could they please help me out & Since I'm a Newbie to this details on how to Flash card or Mod would be a help as everything I tried has not worked yet.

That card can be unlocked to 16 pipes and also can be transformed to real X850XT or PE. If it is with 1xVGA / 1xDVI then you will need my special BIOS (for VIVO or non VIVO card) with 1xVGA / 1xDVI. The X850XT PE is only dual DVI and VIVO. But there are X850XT with 1xVGA / 1xDVI and non VIVO.
