My initial impressions are that the classes have a lot of kinks to iron out to make them more fun. A lot of core abilities (see: mesmer-illusions, necromancer-pets) feel very weak compared to other classes'.
I'm probably one of the few who are "on the fence" about the whole weapon swapping thing. It just seems like a hassle to have to swap them all the time. Granted, it does cut down majorly on the amount of hotkeys you need, but it feels unnatural. I mean, I just don't see a necromancer swapping from an axe and a warhorn to a staff mid-fight. For a hybrid class like the ranger it makes sense. Just not other classes.
Well, Necro Minion Master Spec and a Mesmer Shreading spec are two things that made them fun to play. I thoroughly tested The Necro, Engineer, Elementalist, and Mesmer.
Mesmer is one of the strongest classes in PvP especially if played right/smart due to their insane control. 1v1 no one beat me when I played my Mesmer not even in my guild of really good PvPers. Necro has 3 really viable builds, you just have to play well. I rarely even swapped out of axe warhorn on the Necro and did really well in team fights and 1v1. Necros minion master is the most ridiculous spec and actually takes the least amount of skill to play of the 3 viable IMO.
While dodging and weapon swapping may be cumbersome to some, you really don’t have to swap out anything unless you’re an Elementalist. That’s the thing people need to realize. Your skill versus someone else, is really all that matters in GW2 and I can’t say that about any recent MMO I’ve played in fact, I can’t say that about MMOs in general for the last 10 years.
I guess it’s either your cup of tea or it’s not. I don’t know if you were only taking about PvE or what but how you feel is honestly no where near what they are actually like.
