Hi all :)

I've had this combo for a while in fact probably well over a year and I remember getting stuck with this issue before hand but I can't remember for the life of me what I did to fix the problem..

The problem is...
Anytime I try an overclock on the multi its stuck at 40x. The vcore stays the same, nothing else changes.. I've tried setting the multi higher and even lower but it still sits at 40x.. But.. the BLCK (I think that's the right way around for the FSB as it was back in 775 land...) I set to 100.1 and that changes..

So can anyone please put me out of my misery and explain to me what I need to change so I can finally get a little more performance from my lovely 2600k which was running 4.8Ghz a year ago but for some reason now, the bios is stopping me going past 4Ghz...
Please I beg of anyone!! This is torture!! lol :(

Generally when the multiplier is locked because your CPU doesn't support overclocking. Please download CPUZ, and post a screenshot so we can see your system to rule out any simple mistakes or errors, then help can move forward

Also any bios versions etc. would be smart to post as well

Try searching Google and YouBoob?

Here's one

Edit: Thread on someone not being able to change multi with a 2600k https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165906.0
I tried a few and my Googling is failing me so I thought I'd come to a place that I definitely knew would be able to give much better help!! :)

Load optimal settings save reboot and try setting multi again perhaps. / Clear/reset bios
I've tried loading up my old profiles and resetting the bios but nothing has seemed to work. I know it was a setting in the bios, but for the life of me I can't remember!! I think pulling the bios battery out or using the 2 pin short trick would be the next thing I try...

That's the weird thing it was working before (that old chestnut...) Here's a few screen shots as requested :) Apologises for not putting them in the original post.. It's been a long day!! :)

If you need some bios screen shots I can go and grab some of them as well :)

There's a screen shot of when I had it running overclocked when I first had it lol I wish I knew that setting!!

Thank you guys for your help so far :)

You need an overclock wayback machine. ;P. My guess is you are missing something obvious in the BIOS... follow one of the vids step by step. 4.8 is a killer OC

I even have tried a pre overclocked profile by Nick on the bios, its still not doing it lol I know it's an option somewhere but I can't remember the damn thing that's stopping me lol The CPU will do 5.2Ghz but with the crappy H100i I have on it, it's not worth it.. lol It was shutting down over the last summer due to the heat over in the UK.. That was only running 4.8Ghz then....

I wish I knew what it was.. I'll have another look in a mo.. If I find it, I will post it up! :)

Well thank god....

1515630561838.png

Not sure what it was but after a bios reset with the two pin trick by the bios battery, in the bios, up the multi to 42, bit more volts, job is done :) That said, the volts weren't stuck at 1.2v instead it was 1.064v or so as it was jumping about a bit.. Thanks god......

I love these boards...

Thank you guys for your help :) I knew this was the right place to come :)

Have this same exact setup and what happens is the BIOS gets "Stuck" at a given CPU multiplier if the intended OC isn't stable.

Whatever you have the CPU multiplier set for when it wigs out is where it gets stuck and the only way to fix it is to use the rest button on the back of the board or just a simple CMOS clearing, I use the button and it's solved. Bad thing is I have to go back in and reset everything and you will too regardless of clearing/resetting method used, can't be helped but that's how it is. Does this with any CPU used so it's not specfic to the chip in the board, it's just the board itself.

Noted you fixed it but this is a common issue with the Z77 OCF.
Glad you were able to fix it without all the drama.

I'm not sure what was going on there, but something definitely wasn't happy.. Love the board though and it is normally so stable even with a nice big overclock on the 2600k.. Shame really I haven't got a 2700k as in my Z97 OCF I have a 4770k and I'm looking for a 6700k for my Z170 OCF... lol Madness!! :) I'll hopefully remember this for next time if it happens!! Hopefully I'll be able to get myself sorted with my X99 build... Finally....

Thanks for the links :) I believe I checked it last night and it was on the latest bios, not sure if it's the best one, but it's the latest :)

Yep. Most of these could do 5 ghz on high end air. But if you are really at 4.8 and 1.4v and that is the lowest possible voltage, you have a dud.

No. Well, what???!!! I have no idea what you are trying to convey...doesnt matter though.

If that is the lowest voltage stable for the clock, you have a dud. 1.35v should be good for 5ghz on most samples.

I was using IBT to test the stability so I guess it might do 5Ghz on a little less volts but meh it's not the end of the world, I only moved to the 2600k as it was free and given to me :)

Are the 2700k's any better?

The CPU will do 5.2Ghz but with the crappy H100i
How is an H100i crappy? It's one of the best coolers out there for an AIO.

I don't like it personally, I think I have two different versions but they both seem about as good as air cooling to me.. But then I'm more used to custom loops so I'm a snob lol I've never looked into how much better it would be with my 920 cooling setup..

I just upgraded from an H80i v2 to an H100i V2 just the other day and my temps from my 6core CPU went from 100*C (yes I know hence the upgrade) doing stress testing and crunching down to 65-70*C. Idle temps went from 35*C to around 25-28*C

Are the 2700k's any better?
On average, the 2700k silicon speed may be a tad better from binning, but you sure are getting your coin worth out of the 2600k you have,. You're not likely to see any better OC with a 2700k unless you get really lucky. Other than the top core speeds, the chips are identical.

I was wondering whether or not to get one to go with the other 47xx and 6700k I hope to have for the other OCF boards I have (just cos I have OCD issues... lol) but otherwise the 2600k is perfectly fine :)
