Half-Life 3 in development? (Fudzilla rumour)

No word that this is the case from Valve

Could it be that Valve is already quietly working on Half-Life 3? While many have assumed for some time that Valve would drop another chapter in the franchise at some point, the company has been working on other things, so we just assumed that this was a project on the back burner.

Talk of a possible Half-Life 3 in development, however, has heated up after a picture of an unnamed Valve employee showed up on a Twitter feed with the “Tweeter” saying that he had permission to take the picture. While the t-shirt clearly shows the Half-Life 3 logo and it was worn at a Seattle developer night event, people are already putting two and two together.

Well… we have reached out to a number of our sources in the development community and no seems have heard any indication that Half-Life 3 is being actively worked on; but everyone in the shadows does believe that we will see a Half-Life 3 title at some point and it is just a matter of when.

No comment from Valve so far, but it is possible that it could be coming. Still, we don’t think we will hear about it till CES at the earliest, but more likely E3 if they really have something in the works. After all, if a T-shirt can predict the future, who are we not to fan the flames of possibility?

HL3 TO BE A PS3 EXCLUSIVE?

There are many questions surrounding the new Half Life 3 game, but one that sticks out more than most is the possibility of PS3 exclusivity. If you look at the picture above you can see someone wearing a T-shirt advertising Half Life 3, Chandana Ekanayak of Uber Entertainment recently tweeted saying that the T-shirt is being worn by a by a Valve employee.

8bitfix asks this question “Could the VGA PS3 exclusive announcement be Half Life 3?” and then talks about past talks trying to find an answer.

In 2009 the marketing director for Valve, Doug Lombardi mentioned about looking for some “PS3 guys” to be under their roof, they wanted to make major improvements to their games with Sony’s console.

Sony apparently according to previous talks with Gabe Newell (Valve’s president) said that Sony deserves lucrative and valuable PS3 content; Sony has already been praised for its third-party online service integration with their online network.

I had great hopes for Black Mesa but i see it's a vaporware now. Said to be released at the end of 2010. It's almost 2012 now and still nothing.

Not interested. Never was. But if hl3 is something groundbreaking and got nothing to do with 1 and 2 then I can give it a try.

After seeing new games like f3ar, wolfenstein or deus ex hr and realising that they have nothing new it's easy to lose interest in anything. Even tho I totally love DNF.

I think I'd get rather excited about Doom 4 and Quake 5.

No, HL3 is not going to be PS3 exclusive. That is rubbish and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Mark Chubb is either a troll or an idiot. Possibly both but really just a wanker who wants to get his little article on the internet read. I'm sorry I even clicked on the link to the article as that's one more visitor to his site/article. He doesn't deserve it for such vomit. The article isn't even remotely interesting other than the said vomit.

Of course HL3 is in development, it's been in development for years and most people know it. What most people don't know and want to know is when it's going to be released. So.. some guy wore a shirt that may or may not have been a Valve employee. Whoop-ti-doo!

However, I have been waiting for HL2: Episode3 for a long time, and would gladly buy it right this second. I hope the two are not rolled into the same title, and remain separate.

the odd thing is that current gen consoles should be able to run half-life 2 and it's episodes so even if they planned to add in console support why not release episode 3 now for console and pc and wait for the next gen consoles to release HL3 on both console and pc?

My guess is tech has nothing to do with the delay. I simply think all the mystery surrounding the the events of the half life series makes it a big pain in the ass to develop continuing storylines for. So basically they have no idea how they want a new storyline to go and thus can't continue with development.

I think only Blue Shift and Opposing force where PC exclusives; you had the Dreamcast unreleased version and PS2 version of HL1, then Orange Box for PS3 and 360 (PS3 version was total gash). Half Life has never really been PC exclusive.

I think what Valve may do is make the next Half Life for PS3, PC but not 360. Quite the turn around from the days of them not really favouring the PS3.

There's some Steamworks features on Playstation, achievements and such.

It won't be PS3 exclusive. The "PS3 guys" were hired for Portal 2 and all future titles from Valve.
