So it is finally out today. I am surprised it allows uncapped FPS which is nice for multiplier. There are no detailed visual adjustments which is a bummer. Overall I am excited to replay all the lovely Halo missions on PC. It has been a while~

I am confused.
Halo: Master Chief Collection contains Halo: Reach, correct?

But Halo: Reach is also sold separately on Steam. So why does it say on its product page that "*Halo: The Master Chief Collection is required to play the (digital only) Halo: Reach."?

According to Windows Central:

"It's important to highlight that you'll need the Master Chief Collection in order to purchase Halo: Reach on PC, as the MCC will act as the hub from which you can buy and launch the different Halo games as they release on the PC platform."

Hmmm, so you're paying 40 euro for essentially a menu then. And then you'll have to pay 10 euro after that for each game? That will be 40+(10x6) = 100 euro for all the games?

I thought the whole package would cost 40 euro. Apologies if I'm missing something here.

I'm afraid it will be a lot more than $100. Halo CE Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST and Halo 4 are listed at $40 each so the total price for all the Halo games will be $250 if I'm understanding this pricing correctly.

I paid $40 for all the games. Period. If you buy the MCC you buy all the games.

MCC is $39.99 and includes Reach through halo 4. Reach itself is $9.99. The $40 stuff is probably just place holder. I really cant see them having MCC as $40 and then all the games seperate being the same price except for Reach. It just doesnt make sense.

I can't access Steam at work but I refer to the below site. They simply copy the prices listed on Steam but they must have gotten something wrong this time.

I dont know where you guys are getting your info.
Me neither. I think it's the way Steam has listed the purchases. It's all very confusing. Just look at the different interpretations here in this thread.

But are you saying that you just bought this: https://store.steampowered.com/sub/376282/, and now you can run Halo: Reach?

Ok, so it's just Steam that's being very unclear then.

EDIT: It also doesn't answer why on the Halo: Reach Steam page it says that it requires MCC to run. Just an error?
"This content requires the base game Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Steam in order to play."
From what I can tell on my end, it's sort of like how Battlefield does their games. 1 launcher so to speak and you can from there launch any of the BF games (or in this case Halo). I can launch Reach through Halo 4 once all the other games are released from a single menu.

That’s exactly the way they have it set up. They are all in the Menu now in order of release.

Reach is ten bucks American. If you buy the whole MCC, you get all the games for 40 bucks. Otherwise, buy them all separately for ten bucks each (plus 5 for ODST). Can confirm. You do not have to "buy" the MCC separately. Buy Reach, and you get MCC with only one game enabled. Buy the 40 dollar MCC package, and you will get all the games once they come out.

Let's talk about the game itself tho... Hooooly crap the player inertia feels super weird on keyboard and mouse. If you don't know what I mean, the player is "heavy." It takes a second for your character to start moving, which means the normal "ADADADA" strafing that you'd normally do in a PC shooter doesn't work. It also makes turning and shooting a little weird. You have to really feel it to know what I mean. It's clearly still meant to be played with a controller. Or rather, no changes were made to make it more friendly to a mouse and keyboard, which can be a good or bad thing depending on whether you're a purist or want optimizations.

Which brings me to the next point, auto aim is applied if you're using an xbox controller, and KBM players are put into the same lobby as xbox controller players. So there will be some interesting interaction there. A good player with sticks will probably be able to outdo a mediocre player on KBM. Of course a good player with KBM will probably always outdo a good player with sticks, but it will at least give the sticks a chance, maybe, especially with the weird inertia feel of movement that's clearly geared towards a controller.

Third point, steam controller: There is AWFUL input lag when using it with dual input mode (i.e, analog stick plus mouse emulation). Consensus seems to be that it's because the game does not support dual input (i.e., holding a controller in the left hand and a mouse in the right hand) and so the steam API is doing some gymnastics for it to work. I haven't tried it yet, but other say if you turn the steam controller to keyboard/mouse emulation (stick becomes "digital" and not analog) then it works fine.

Other than that, had a good time on the few games I got to play last night. Looking forward to more. Also, it runs great at 60fps locked even on my living room PC that's rocking a GTX 770 classified, and usually only used for low end games. So potato computers can definitely apply.

I have a Game Pass trial I’ve been using, and so I tried to install this game. It installed just fine but it freezes at the menu every single time, so I have not been able to play it. MS Store reviews make it sound like my issue isn’t all that uncommon. You may recall that MCC was a hot mess when it launched on Xbox too. I guess I’ll wait for a patch.

So does Halo CE come with the original MP maps of the PC version? Those were pretty fun, especially with heavy vehicles.

For me it will only launch from the start menu icon

It’s worth a shot. My experience with MS store is that it won’t work, but it does give me another idea. I also tried Forza Horizon 4 earlier in the week, and it did something similar where it would crash at launch. Repairing it didn’t work, but moving the app to another drive did make it work. This is just a bad look for MS, not being able to simply install a game. Steam has never done this in all my years using it. I remember having similar issues with other apps in the MS store, dating back to Windows 8/RT.

UPDATE:
Tried repairing it, tried moving it to another drive. I get one screen further on the menu and it locks up. Progress!
