It totally depends on the product. I do not trust HDDs bought used as you don't know what the age of the drive is regardless of what the seller tells you. I have no issues buying used GPUs (in some ways it was the only decent way to get a Vega 64). CPUs I buy new because there are so many out there due to product refreshes, you can find some stellar deals. One thing I do love to buy though is refurbished (I remember getting a OCZ Revodrive3 240GB for $199 from Newegg)

There are several parts that I always buy new - PSU,memory and GPUs (unless I don't plan to keep them for too long).
However,I hardly remember buying a cpu new.I think only my 2500k was brand new.I have no porblem with buying used boards too.

I don't buy "used" often although I do sell a lot of used PC hardware. My current CPU is used but I knew the former owner.

I do buy open box a lot from microcenter and Amazon including CPU, GPU, SSD, RAM, and mobo. The only thing I always buy new is the PSU.

i prefer used, becouse it giving me thrill, something like gambling or an challenge, and ofcourse becouse they were cheap, but i also pay for new, if the price is good, warranty isnt my priority, i never to go for rma, almost stuff failure after warranty expired, mostly phone with 1year warranty, so its useless for me somehow

New only. I don't have the budget to cover losses if used hardware fails me too soon.

Also, I almost never buy online. I rather go to a brick and mortar store, just so I can have a human being to complain to if things don't work like they are supposed to.

Though, I did buy a used Microsoft Trackball Optical 1.0. Works fine, so I don't regret that one.

The snob in me likes to buy new, but I don’t have a problem buying used stuff. I won’t buy used spinners. At one time I have said that to all main components, but I haven’t had a problem yet with used purchases. Everything worked or is still working. I prefer local because I can chit chat with the seller a bit and form an opinion from there whether I want to buy or not.

Depends on what I'm looking for & what it will be used for.....

The last 4 personal rigs I built with all new parts & cases, except for the ram, ssd/M.2's, and peripherals, which I moved over from the previous rigs..

For client builds, I get all new if they have the budget for it. If they are looking for a low cost rig, then of course I start looking for used stuff for sure...

However, I haven't bought ANY spinners or Monitors for several years, and even if I did want either, I would neva, eva, buy a used one

Just an FYI, with open box items you get the full manufacturer warranty (store warranty may vary but usually doesn't). You can even send away for the MIR. I've had open box RAM replaced by Crucial and MIR checks on open box Mobos & GPUs.

as others have said it really depends on the seller, i have a few friends who i know and trust. when they say never mined/clocked i believe them and when they say they got 5.1ghz @1.45v i do too

Psu, mouse, keyboard new (or i know their history in my reach), rest of can be used.
But it is always depends on the situations/needs. Last I purchased a used sff pc just to handle my stuff, it can run freely for days, not needed to fire up the biggun

Always new for my personal builds. I only buy used for client builds when they are on a very tight budget and I know (and can trust) the seller.

Like others, I always buy new for personal builds, although I have bought used GPUs from trusted friends in the past without getting burned.
I also recondition PCs for resale, as there's a healthy market here for used kit. I've bought Pentium 4s and other CPUs up to quad-core, motherboards, memory and cases, none of which have been for personal use.
Although I've bought hard drives, they are the one dodgy area that I try to avoid due to the failure rate. I also sell a lot of used components for the same reasons.

I always buy new the parts which have moving parts or difficult to identify broken parts, e.g. GPUs, PSUs, MBs, SSDs/HDDs. The main issue with MBs is that they can look and behave fine but have various unpleasant quirks which you'll only notice after using them for some time. This includes general instability (reboots/power offs), data loss due to malfunctioning SATA ports, dead RAM slots and other things. The reason not to buy GPUs is that some people OC them relentlessly and damage them, others never clean the dust and by doing that they also reduce the lifespan of the GPU. SSDs/HDDs are extremely finicky even when they are new, so it's a lottery I don't wanna to participate in.

I can buy used CPUs (the ones which do not support overclocking) & RAM modules for my friends.

For myself I always buy everything new with a warranty however my last purchase was sheer folly since I live in Europe and I purchased the CPU and motherboard in the US, so if I face any issues it will be quite expensive and time consuming to RMA them.

It depends. PSU’s are always new. I have bought used motherboards and cpu’s (In fact all cpu’s In our house right now are used, and 2/5 motherboards are used. 2/4 GPU’s are also used. I just shop very carefully and have not ever been burned off eBay.

With new GPU’s I usually wait until just before new models come out. Most RAM is new except for 1 set. I always buy new monitors, SSD’s and most of the time HDD, although on occasion I get them refurbished/ recertified.

Whatever I have whether new or used is well cared for and kept clean. Most who have bought from me are amazed how “new looking” the parts are.

the probablity of a damaged one is very low since I buy LGA (no bent pins) and the cpu protects itself from overheating.Plus you can look around for good bins.When I was buying my 5775c there were three and I could easily choose the one that could run OC at lowest voltage.

they're surprisingly popular here in PL.I didn't even pay that much.Same as a 7700K at that time.Plus they really hold value.Paid 1400 2.5 years ago,they go for 1250pln used now.in the meantime ryzen 1920x dropped from 2400pln new to 900pln used.

New for my main rig and my kids PC's.
I buy used for my hobby projects...
In 2016 I read an article about a $65 gaming PC and took the challenge... The only non used part in that build was the gfx... Which was a brand new unopened GTX 285...I got it for $17

I recently built a system to play with a Pentium G3258...100% used parts
I also built a 1155 system with an I3 3220 with all used parts..

And now I have a bunch of junk.. Lol
