ok , am I dense or something? why get a fractional, less than 1% increase in real applications by flashing?

Yoo can oc very easily and not worry about it, even adjust the voltages..?
If I am wrong please show me some data that a plus 25 to 50 core change on a 600-700 core speed give more fps in your favorite game or in your 3d ap etc.

these 8800s are fast, and oc makes them a little faster, but is not the true speed in the archetecture, number of pipes shaders etc? as well as a nice set of numbers?

I'll have a run later on say 740 and 785mhz running fraps and see for comparison, and yes it is in the SP's but the faster they run the better they perform so overclocking the core gives some improvements, when you overclock the shaders and core then I think you might be quite surprised.

@ Trickson, just upload the BIOS as you would a picture by pressing the "manage attachments" button at the bottom of the page below the text box.

right, oc and then oc with modded bios for 25 50 more, I really would like to see a cmparision, I would be ver ysurprised to see a 3-5 % increase, which I consider small, I would expect that the diffference between the two is negligable, that is one oc'd and one oc'd with modded bios or some typr of PHYSICAL modding.. not the use of water. I think adding water would be a bigger issue to lower temps, but , we will see.. please do follow up thanks.

Dont worry, have not got water, dont need it with this card, maxed at 785 on the core and almost 2000 on the shaders she wont go above 44C full load with this awesome cooler. I will do the 2 runs later tonite, I think your theory may be smashed IMO, you obviously dont feel the force of shader clocks ;)

As a matter of interest let me know your max speeds you run yours at and I will do a run at those speeds also, then say 730 and then 780.

check this out

The spreadsheet on this site shows a comparison of 8800GT stock and at 700 core/2000 memory, and on average there is a 10.7% increase across five games. Dont know how accurate the data is - but it seems about right. So for a 16.6% increase in core and 11.1% in mem, you get 11% better performance - thats pretty good scaling... essentially you would get a 4-5% gain from 730ish to 780ish, which is significant enough to do the mod... especially with something like an Accelero s1(nice).

Youre essentially matching/surpassing GTX speeds at 1680x1050... im about to flash right now actually :toast:

One Asus 8800GT modded bios for you to try (at your own risk) :D I had to save it as a text file as you cannot upload Rom/Bin files here so you will need to rename it to a rom file.

Most of the 8800gt OC threads I've read around the net show a negligible increase at best with even 800 core/2100mem but I think it's a pretty smoking card @ stock.

Inno3D 8800GT Overclock seems to come with OC bios with good looking overclock. Not that I have my card any time soon and don't even know could it do 702 core, but seems like something I'd like to try in future. Now we need just someone to spread it wround :)

Do everything the same but when you type in the command in dos, try this instead......

nvflash 1_1.rom

That should work, you dont even nead to name the file. If that does not work then try......... nvflash 1_name.rom.....and lastly if that dont work....................nvflash -1whateveryou calledit.rom

Good luck!

NO, the card does not run hot, it's releative, it seems to run hot because it has on it just about the WORST cooler ever made, you could fart on the bare PCB and it would keep it cooler than that Nvidia reference. I am at work now but with the higher voltage I will do a run tonight on ATI's 3D object which is more demanding than most games, i'll let it run for a few minutes to really heat up and then post a screenie, you will see the temp there also.

No, the Asus came at 600/1500/900 and without the BIOS mod did 740 on the core, upping it in the bios from 1.05V to 1.1V gave me the extra 45Mhz but more importantly, it adds a lot to the shader clocks. It's very much pot luck with any of the cards but I have not seen any factory overclocked ones that will go much higher when pushed, at the end of the day all a factory overclocked card is a card that has had it's BIOS set for higher stock clocks.....well anyone can do that....why pay more? same GPU, PCB and in most cases.....memory also. I have seen may 8800GT's that dont clock out of the box above 710mhz so as I said.....pot luck!.....I am rarely lucky so I aint complaining this time!

@ Trickson, get this cooler, the artic cooling accelro S1, it's very light but HUGE, as my specs say, you can fit a 120mm and a90mm fan at the same time the fins ars so big and best of all..................it's pretty cheap! It's easy to fit also.

OK, here you go, I just ran it at 24/7 speeds 700/975 I think, this is with the EXTRA voltage from the voltmod, I got board after 6 minutes of waiting but it aint gonna heat up anymore, it stayed at 38C only from 3rd minute but as I said, at 785 on the core, never above 44C........you like it? :D

I can run the card at 785 core/1025 memory and that gives me a shader speed of just under 2000mhz in ATi tools artifact scanner for 20 minutes without ANY artifacts but to run 3D Mark 2006 I need to drop the core 5mhz to 780 (if your shaderclocks are linked) or leave the core at 785 and drop the shaders 15mhz, the one thing that artifact scanner does not really push is the shaders where 3D Mark 2006 does therefore the slight adjustment needed.

I have only run at 740 (max without BIOS mod) and 780 (after mod) in 3D Mark 2006, the difference for the increased core and shaders (I link) gave me an extra 650 points!

ok, where where u before the bios update you are now at 785 1025 meme.. seems I hit higher meme and lower core farting around..

I guess that is my cooling.. argh still attempting to get my system working.. eventually
I will get some twest to add here ! thanks

Youre essentially matching/surpassing GTX speeds at 1680x1050... im about to flash right now actually :toast:

mines 700/2000 stock :D and it does beat a GTS640 by quite a margin, although it doesnt beat my GTX.

when flashing, is there anyway to unlink the shaders? i'd like to get them all maxed out once my S1 arrives (copying tatty :p )

Memory is fairly irrelevant TBH beyond 900, 5mhz increase on the core/shaders is worth about 25-30mhz on the memory in performance terms. As I said, before update I got 740 on the core.

You dont need to unlink the shaders m8, RivaTuner allows you to set them completely seperatly when you overclock.

Edit: Since a couple of forceware releases ago in anycase the core/shader clocks were unlinked at the driver level hence why the developer of RivaTuner (Sidewinder?) added the shader clocks to Rivatuner so dont worry there. My core will actually go to 825mhz :) but it wont take the shaders to 2100mhz if linked so the idea is to get the balance right as each has an impact on the other, even when unlinked, at these really high clocks it's the shader often thats the limiting factor so do I go 825mhz core and 1845mhz shaders (the higherst the shaders will run with the core set so high) or do I run the core at 785mhz which allows me to run the shaders at 1926mhz, I tested both, the answer is in my specs, certainly in 3D Mark 2006, the lower core with the higher shaders is good for 170 points over the higher core and lower shaders.......all with memory at 1025mhz.......overclocking these things to their max is a work of fookin art!

sorry i meant with the bios flash :D i want to test them with ATI tool/rivatuner, then flash them to those clocks.

Most of the 8800gt OC threads I've read around the net show a negligible increase at best with even 800 core/2100mem but I think it's a pretty smoking card @ stock.

I gained 1500 points benching my 8800gt after the flashing my card, prior to that I was stable at 721/1740/1021, I'm now at 755/1830/1021. My orginal clock was 600/1500/900 thats a giant increase and these are not my benching speeds these are 24/7 clocks. My dual orb is not as good as the Accelero s1 but it is a third of the size and my core temps don't ever exceed 50c. If I had a Accelero s1 I could match tatty I'm betting. It is a fantastic cooler for 23.00 you cannot beat it. I had Accelero s1 on my evga 8800 gt card and unflashed it did 860/1955/2033 wonder what it would have done flashed. I went with the orb this time beacuse I got a deal and because it is a little better looking than the Accelero(The Accelero S1 looks better on a 3870 with the red PCB, it fits the 3870 if your wondering to tried it on one before I sold the pair of 3870 I had) my new case has a side window
