has anyone noticed this about computer prices

i hate this, back in 2003 the best amd cpu was like £150 (amd xp 3200 skt A which was the best at that time for home pc's, skt 754 wasnt even out)(double that figure for us dollar) and then in like 2004 the best amd cpu was like £550 (fx 55 whe it first came out 130 nano version) and now the best amd is like £750 (fx 60). but really the fx 60 should have replaced the fx 55 price and should sell for £550 or even like 2003 top end amd cpu price of £150 but why the fuck didnt it, i hate amd's prices now.

same with graphic cards, 2003 an 9800XT was £320 when it first came out. and now the x1900XTX is like £420, but it should be £320 keeping the top end card the same price and the one before it (x1800XT) reduced in price.

A top end pc is more expensive nowdays then it was it 2003, price increase has also happend on mother boards. back in 2003 best skt A mobo was about £50 and now the best mobo is like £150. the only thing that has gone cheaper since 2003 is DDR400 memory, but mobo, gpu, cpu have increased in price over time

u missed out the FX57 that cost £750.. the FX60 replaced that.. the top end amd cpu always costs £750.. the FX57 now costs £550.. which is what the second from the top always costs.. its about amd being in front of intel.. nothing much else..

but u are are perfectly correct the dfference between the low and high end PCs has got greater.. £400 bottom to £3000 top is about it..

its the gaming factor thats got more expensive..

Well when you think about it pc gaming has grown to new heights in these last couple of years. Imho more people are considering or currently gaming with pc's than back in 02-03. And a lot more people are willing to pay a higher price now a days to control that realistic BMW M3 with chrome rims out run the pigs than to see a small figure with a low-res fairy knife stab blotchy creatures in 2002. It all comes down to software developers creating breathtaking games people want to play and hardware manufactures creating new technology to render these games. New manufacturing processes and new Technology cost more money. But i think this should be the limit though. How much more are you willing to pay? I'm definitely not willing to pay much more than i already am.

Yes I remeberd back in 03", here in emerich I forgot but it may of been an amd or something like that which everyone had. But I get a little mad every mounth they come out with good ideas and may make stuff, just think in 3 years what can happen, prices do rise very very high. I miss the poor old ghetto days

i remember the comotion when intel released the first 800mhz FSB P4 at 3.2ghz with HT,
360 bucks when the average price of a CPU was around 150,
then when the extreme editions came out at 600 bucks,

i also remember that when 9800 pro came out, it costed around 250-300 bucks,
and it was the fastest thing around,

now the top end graphics cards are around 600 bucks

basicly i think its becuase the product life cycle is shorter,
between the 9800 series and the x800 series there was more then a year
between the X800 and the X1800 i think there was like 6-9 months
and between the x1800 and the x1900 there was about 3 months,

you keep pulling out a new graphics card every 3-6months, and your R&D budget is going to skyrocket

mine hasnt really gone up over the last two years..

two years ago i bought a 9700 pro.. this cost me £230 just after the 9800 was released..

i bought a barton 3000 this cost about £110.. the 3200 was the top end one..

mobo about £70..

1 gig memory about £110..

today i buy a gto2 and clock it.. with the artic cooler about £150.. £80 cheaper than my 9700 pro..

today i buy a 64 3700 cost £170 and clock it.. i end up with a FX57.. £60 more expensive..

mobo about £70 the same as back then..

2 gig memory £112 about the same as i paid for 1 gig back then..

back then my system would have been closer to the top end grfx card wise than the one i now have.. but its the top end thats gotten totally insane.. who the f-ck needs a grands worth of grfx cards..

for me I just played the system, my first xp days i didn't have a retailers license
went from a 950 athlon to an xp 2000 (140$) picked up a 9000 for 100$ and kept most of the rig the same, then mobo fried went to a kt600 chip board (100$), barton 2500 (135$) which i overclocked to 3200 as they had the same mults. (166x11 to 200x11) swapped the pc133 for 512 ddr400 (even trade) kept the 9000, and got an allied 500w psu (which just bit the dust two days ago. lol)

so overall and upgrade used to cost me under 500$ in those days, now even with the discount I pay around 1000$ but of course that's mostly due to not recieving a discount on cooling costs. lol

well, the good thing about PC prices, the prices for average/good hardware has gone DOWN. And even then, good hardware can usually be OC'd/Flashed to high-end hardware . All you have to do is apply some frugality, and you will dominate the world of PC prices.

A shop around my house, they sell stuff cheap cheap cheap, i got the nx6600gt from them for a small price maybe 80 bucks, in american it would be 170 I think..... Some places still sell good items!!!!! for 1980's prices!

well, the good thing about PC prices, the prices for average/good hardware has gone DOWN. And even then, good hardware can usually be OC'd/Flashed to high-end hardware . All you have to do is apply some frugality, and you will dominate the world of PC prices.

Flashing is always a risk, if it goes seriously wrong and you can't flash it back then... well, you're pretty much screwed. The warranty will be voided and you would have to buy a new one. Imagine buying a $300 vid card and the flash goes seriously wrong...

not to mention with the exception of the x1900xt (which still has a hefty price tag) most cards don't flash to the latest and greatest. usually their a step behind such as the gto2 flashing to an x850xt, you're still ending up with older or lower performing hardware, back when the 9700's came out they were around 300$ a 300$ card now won't get you even close to the highest performer, even with flashing and overclocking.

That's what I try to do to. I'm about due for a completely new system though if I want to keep that up.
