And don't forget about The Greatest of Them All (YES, that DOES include Half-Life!): Deus Ex. The first game. Awesome for real.

Also, you'll want to try out the Jedi Knight-games. JK1 is kinda dated (and at least I feel it's a bit too fast for me nowadays), but JK2 and Jedi Academy are great.

havent played an fps in 7-8 years....and i sucked at it at the time, i want to start playing again..was wondering what a good fps would be for more me to play :) last fps i played was turok on the n64 :)

i was thinking of getting unreal tournament 3

How could you have a 3870x2 and don't play fps? Oblivion only goes so far man.
Oh btw get Counter Strike Source retail for 25$, you also get HL2:DM and DOD:S.

If you haven't played any FPS in almost a decade -

I'd recommend Doom3 - once you get more used to playing FPSes again. Doom3 is beautiful, and highly effective in it's scare capabilities . . . but even on normal and easy, many points of each level can be insane hard to get through - especially when you've given up trying to make use of the flashlight and just start using your current weapons muzzle flash to help target your enemies.

Quake4 is worth the time to check out, though - although it's a bit more hardware intensive compared to Doom3.

Also - the Thief series, if you have a lot of patience and don't mind having to observe your enemies before you make a move. Granted, the first two are graphically showing their age . . . the gameplay, story, immersion all come together to create something that was groundbreakingly brilliant. The third installment runs off the UT2 engine, and is graphically superior, and still has a great story and gameplay - but us die hard fans weren't 100% thrilled with it.

Although . . . the mission known as "The Cradle" in Thief: Deadly Shadows is, IMO, the single most brilliant and effective mission in any FPS I've played. That mission alone was so praised, that PC Gamer published a 10 page story on that mission alone . . . the first time they've ever go so in-depth for any mission in any game to that point. Well worth the time to check out.

and speaking of the Thief series . . . RIP Looking Glass Studios :respect: :respect: :respect:

I've you're up for a little "thrills and chills" - pick up F.E.A.R. Great enemy AI, decent graphics and quite a few moments that'll keep you on the edge of your seat . . .

. . . although, not as effective your second time through :(

The Jedi Knight games and Jedi Academy are freaking sweet, but not really FPS IMO. Definitely really awesome games though. :rockout:

farcry is not a classic, its a tech demo with a shitty story line

Tech demo?! What are you talking about? To this day it pushes modern hardware.

Farcry is a classic i mean for its time it had the best graphcs a sorts good storyline cept the demon monkeys. Its free for download FULL GAME so get that as a start.

OMG how to could you not complete the original Half Life that game was the best and so is opposing force. Looking forward to Black Messa Source coz that should be a full game that we have to pay for i know id pay for it GOD why couldn't Valve make that.

Get COD1 its the best Call of Duty there has been i think its better than COD4 that just seems to spawn enemies randomly and they just get more annoying at higher difficulties unlike COD1. COD4 GRENADES ANYONE INFACT HERES 12 OF EM AT ONCE.

Get Doom 3 that game seriously is a good starting point sicne it is just mostly corridors that makes it easy to know where the enemy is and it looks decent and although the story is kinda shit it was good to play.

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is a solid online FPS and ANY Unreal Tournament mainly the newest one coz it has good graphics.

Stalker is a good game just dont expect anything major from the gameplay or grpahics coz the shooting is kinda crap at long range.

For your own good... stay way from UT3, get some good games, COD4,orange box. even some older ones like mentioned before me, Doom 3 and farcry both games that are under $20 bux now...as a former UT2004 player, that game was dead before it even hit shelves, it stays alive because people buy games because people think there gonna be good, and play just because.

STALKER

FarCry

Hitman

FEAR

HL2

What is great about Hitman, FarCry and STALKER is they are all "free to chose your route", whereas HL2 is just "tunnels" even if in the open air... there is only one scripted way to go through the map. Both FEAR and HL2 are great... but when you play them... it reminds you of MOH and COD maps where it looks open... or you think you have choices, but actually, you dont have any choice how you can pass through from one "area" to another. You are basically forced down one path. The reason for map corridors is mapping, scripted enemy "spawn" and poor AI. I do hate that.
