Having problems overclocking Sapphire R9 270X

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Sapphire R9 270X Vapor-X 2 GB DDR5 OC WITH BOOST graphics card. The default clocks for the card are 1100 MHz for the core and 1450 MHz for the memory. The core overclocks good and I could easily achieve a stable 1175 MHz which is pretty good considering this card came factory overclocked. But the problem is with the memory. The card is rock stable at 1450 MHz which is the default clock but fails to run stable when the memory clock is set to 1475 MHz(a mere 25 MHz increase). The memory ICs used are Elpida W2032BBBG-6A-F which are rated at 1500 MHz. So I should be able to get it stable at least up to this point right? Help is appreciated. :)

totally elphida memories is not stable than others in oc mode.
have you tried to increase voltage with increasing memory clock?
anyway , overclocking memory clock by 50mhz wouldn't make any difference in performance at all. why do you want to do that?

Actually, I was thinking that the memory being rated at 1500 MHz should go at least up to that point. The remaining is lottery and depends on build quality/voltage supplied to the card.
And I do not get the option to increase memory voltage. I have tried increasing the power limit but there has been no improvement. My question is since the memory ICs are themselves rated at 1500 MHz, why are they not stable at that frequency? Is some chip defective or the card is restricted somehow to run at those clocks?

Timings are probably tight enough where overclocking isn't really feasible. As @SASBehrooz said, even if you could overclock it, you probably wouldn't gain much from it.

I saw some reviews of the card and there is an interesting observation. One site took the memory clock to as high as 1563 MHz(with an older BIOS ver. 039). And another site topped it out at 1500 MHz(with the BIOS version I have). Did Sapphire deliberately cripple the memory for marketing or something?

i had sapphire R9 290 Trix OC before i buy gtx 970 . in my experience , i barely could reach 1400mhz stable (plus the memory was hynix which is better than elphida).
so yes, it can be because of build quality of memory or graphic card`s board.

It could just be the silicon lottery. Not every IC can clock well.

True that. But I wonder that if the ICs themselves are rated at 1500 MHz, why they would not clock at that? Truly speaking, it is not even overclocking if you look from the memory IC's perspective.

with my experience, dont use trixx. its will hang sometimes or close program sometimes. try MSI afterburner for OC Stuff.
