Heya Guys!

Recently I've already picked out the PC i'm going to make (it's taking longer than usual since I'm still waiting for the money to arrive to I can buy the parts) and I've been tinkering with what parts I'm going to use. I've already received help from the the system's builders forum for most of the parts I putting into this build (though I've replaced the mobo and PSU, the site is really a great help)

so here's the parts:
Processor: Core i3 -2100
Mobo: MSI Z77A-G43
Ram: Corsair 4gb DDR3
PSU: Thermaltake Litepower 700w
HDD: 500gb 7200rpm

they said that the HD 6790 is great since I'll be doing some 3d modeling, Video Editing and gaming on this new rig, but it came to mind that I may also opt for a Nvidia card.

So the choice is between the Powercolor HD 6790 1gb DDR5
or the Inno3d GTX 550 TI 1gb DDR5

So which is better for my build?

Thanks for the help guys :D

No wonder they suggested that card! thanks for the quick feedback! I'll just wait for the money and I'll immediately get the parts.

Thank you!

Spring for another 4GB of RAM you won't regret it. RAM is so cheap right now your foolish not to have 8GB.

Yeah I was kinda thinking of doing the same thing. I was thinking of dropping my board from this z77 to the MSI H77A-G43 (I'm also browsing for ATX boards, not uATX) and getting another 4gb RAM so all in all i'll get 8 gb.

Dropping my PSU to the robust Antec VP450w since they said that the HD 6790 doesn't really need 500w. Also if budget permits, I'm upgrading to an Core i5 (a non-K since people said it's pretty useless.)

I still have a lot of time to tinker around with my parts since money is kinda hard now. hopefully by August or September I'll be getting everything

Well GTX 550Ti competes HD 6770 not HD 6790 so HD 6790 is better but you must look for the GTX 460 it is a little bit better then HD 6790 and the price is also a little higher but because of nvidia you can also play physX games on it for example: Batman Arkham Ciry, Metro 2033 with PhysX effect but i know there is very limited range of PhysX games So HD 6790 is your card but if you think you can spend some more money(for 2-6 fps increase) then GTX 460 is better and it also supports PhysX

IMO I would get a quad core processor for those tasks. Also 4GB isn't enough these days.

But to answer your the 6790 is between 6% - 14% faster.

So OP was looking for the HD 6790(which is 130$) and i suggested him to go with the GTX 460(which is 140$) and you are saying to go with the HD 7770(Which is 140$ also) or HD 6850(which is 150$) So,
I already suggested to increased his budget 10$ more and you are say to increase it 20$ more for the HD 6850 it makes no sense at all but as you can see GTX 460 and HD 7770 prices are same but GTX 460 is better the HD 7770 So you want him to buy a weaker card why!? and you must google it that "why People make budget?"

Well there is a 6850 available here. it's around $140. The HD6790 is around $130. I was Planning on dropping my Mobo to an MSI H77A-G43, I've read bad reviews for the MSI Z77A-G43 (it was bad for a Z77 mobo)

The 8gb ram will have to wait, it's out of my budget.

Side Question: is the ThermalTake Litepower 600w (which is actually a 500w PSU) enough for this build? I was thinking of Upgrading to an i5 by next year so I was thinking on a better PSU.

Oh and for those interested in helping me with this build (this is my very first build that I will build myself) just drop by this thread http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167407
Moderators might get mad since some post aren't about vid cards in a vid card forum.
