Wouldn't it have more to do with the video card/chipset on each machine? I had a Q6600 with 4gb ddr2-1066 ram but a 7300 series nvidia card and it choked on 1080p. It had no problem (mostly) with 720p though. :)

An 8600GT should do 1080p just fine though, hell iirc it outperformed the 8800GTS 320/640's in that aspect. I would say check drivers and codecs first off, that and is the gametrailer in question an HD one or does it specify? Was there other stuff going on with the Core2 rig at the time like folding/crunching?

it has zero to do with the hardware involved. its all to do with the software.

Uninstall any codec packs you have installed, such as K-lite and install the CCCP

I'm going to say this VERY clearly since so many people have the wrong idea: VIDEO CARDS TO NOT ACCELERATE VIDEO PLAYBACK ON NORMAL MEDIA (FILES). They ONLY work on Blu ray. DVD and HD-DVD titles from actual DISKS.

the point is that doesnt happen to any of my other HD videos under the same circunstances (mozilla, avast, torrent on background).

it may be the video but the same file works fine on the other pc.

for all you know, its using a different codec than your other files, or at a higher bitrate. Even teh auido codec could be the change.

Do what i suggested and try the CCCP, i've had 1080P files running on 1.2Ghz athlon 64 x2's on 128MB onboard video.

they will conflict. K-lite is one of the worst codec packs in existence, make sure you reboot after uninstalling it.

I had problems watching the Bonus Round on GameTrailers in HD, it was pretty stuttery though I never have problems with their other HD videos, YouTube HD vidoeos, 720p MKV files or even 1080p MKV files.

If you`re using wmp , try opening it with vlc or mpc (media player classic)
