what are the best driver until today - HD2400 ? for 2d ?

Catalyst 9.1 so far as I can see... Fixed VC-1 Playback issues for me (HD2600; has the same UVD after all) and otherwhise works just as great as the 8.12.

I'd say go for it.

Hello everyone,

I saw this thread and I wanted to try and overclock my mobility hd2600. Here are my results:

http://img4.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3dmark06scores.png

4132 3DMarks @ 1280x800 - pretty ok score for a laptop, i think.
Everything is stable, even after cca. 5 hours of continuous stress to the major hardware components.

A couple of questions though - what role does ATI Powerplay have, when for example "maximum performance" in the catalyst center is selected?
Why can't i overclock my memory more, and why can i overclock my core so much - it seems that for memory 495 is max, after that i get artifacts on my screen.

My computer specifications:

Notebook: Toshiba A200-23Q
Chipset: Intel Crestline-GM GM965
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1833MHz (11x167) undervolted to 0.9750V
GPU: ATI HD2600 Mobility Radeon 512VRAM @ 500/400 overclocked to 756/495
RAM: 3072 MB DDR2-667MHz

Best regards

Hey, quite an impressive Core-clock indeed; whenever I get over 700mhz I start having minor flashing artifacts (very seldom and random) in specific aps, like DiRT or GRID. I suppose this is unique to each and every chip; I've seen some not reach the 650mhz and some reach well above the 700mhz (like yours). For the ram it might be a very similiar reason, with addition of maybe diffrent brands or totally diffrent chips used. On my GPU there are Quimonda DDR2-Chips specified to run at 400mhz, yet I can bump up the mhz to 570 (AMDGPUClocktool v0.7) or 540 (ATITool/AMDGCTool v0.9.8) without getting any artifacts.

In addition to that you have a 512mb variant, so each of the 4 Ram-chips holds more memory and is therefore more complex than my 256mb Ram bundle, resulting in lower overclockability. (At least that's what my fair guess would be)

Edit: Judging by the 3DMark score you score pretty much identical to mine at 681/558mhz overclock (count away the 400mhz CPU and score should be identical); so even if your Bandwidth is slower, the Higher-GPU-clock makes up for it in some way or the other.

Edit2: What do you use for Overclocking btw? Judging you ask what role it makes in what you set at Powerplay I would say either ATITool or the 0.9.8 AMDGPUClocktool, because these seem to override the powerplay settings... Basically Maximum Performance let's your GPU run at default BIOS speeds (500/400 for me) at 1.1v (I think). With Maximum Batterylife it'll downclock GPU on mine so that the card runs at 250/400 @ 0.9v (I think; these are ATITrayTool readings, so I'm not sure). If you try to overclock your GPU in Maximum batterylife you will have a system hang (at least with AMDGPUClocktool v0.7); I'm not sure wheter ATITool overrides this too... Be aware though that when using either ATITool or AMDGCT v0.9.8 all powerplay settings are overriden until restart of your machine.

Thank you for your reply.

For overclocking I used Atitool 0.27b4 - this is also visible in the linked picture of my previous post.
So powerplay basically has no effect whatsoever on my overclocking if I use Atitool - it overwrites the powerplay values until next reboot.

Is it possible to bring more power (voltage) to my memory and by this further overclocking it?
My temperatures after intensive gameplay don't go over 55°. If the powerplay can change voltage, surely it can be done manually?I was also wondering why Atitool doesn't detect my GPU diode thermal sensor as for example Everest Ultimate does?

Dixxhead, what are your computer specifications (i was looking through the previous posts, but seemed to miss it)?

Regards

It might be possible somehow to adjust voltage via software, but I have no idea what kind of code this would need and Overclocking scene is yet not really interested in Notebook overclocking (which I still don't quite get... I've never managed to overclock a Desktop GPU by 200mhz, yet I managed on a notebook without the change of cooler or fan, let alone voltage (I replaced thermal paste however, more out of a habbit though))... So no luck there; you could try with a bios-flash but I strongly advise not to do that as the gpu bios in laptops usually resides on the mainboard and is thus linked with the main-system bios (most a read/write protectet to some extend anyway, so gpu-z or the like won't even dump the bios).

AtiTool is a stopped project, afaik W1zzard is working on a new tool for overclocking both Nvidia and Ati with better results, but has still some trouble on the ATI side... For temperature readings you can use everest, AMDGCT or Atitraytool.

You can check my system right under my name (The blue "System Specs" thing under the avatar), as you see it is also a Toshiba A200, 17O though, originally came with a t7100 which I replaced with a T7500. My Card also went up to 55°C while playing, before applying new thermal paste, now it runs as cool as 50-52°C at most in most many games (overclocked of course). I think those babys can go as high and hotter than 75°C without problems, so we are totally in the save range.

Sory, didn't see the system specs there
I wouldn't dare flash bios - don't even know how.

Will try AtiTrayTool for monitoring temperatures (the beta version)...

Thanks for your help

I have Asus Radeon HD 2600 XT. I have it overclocked at 860MHz core and 880MHz memory. The thing is I noticed that game runs better when I decrease the speeds (for example 850/850). Can overclocking GPU too much cause the decrease in performance or is it just me? Does anyone know proper overclocking numbers for my card?

Guys i saw in a russian website that a dude pencil modded his 2600 , soldered 2 resistors or whatever and reached far greater results than those here... if you are interested write and ill try to find it

Are there any modded bios out there one could try, for the 2600 512mb DDR2 mobility?

Or, could one use an applikation like hexeditor to simply change clock values? Or is it more complicated than that...

Sry If Im not supposed to bump :)

It's perfectly fine if you need to ask a question in any thread no matter how old it is. :)

Have you tried RBE? http://forums.techpowerup.com/forumdisplay.php?f=63

Cheers.
