Hi, 25 fps when your only getting 30 to start is huge, but if your getting 100 then 25 is not much.

so a little more info please...

Thinking it's not worth it now, All though i know what ya on about but if you had 2900XT's before i think i would of got a more accurate reply.

Games i play are like Arma and IL-2 the later not needing CF at all. Arma crushes v cards due to being old. And a friend has a 4870 x2 and that gets crushed to all though that might be due to drivers and game.

Anyone know the IDLE power usage of 2 of these cards ?.

Worth it to you for FPS reasons? No. For benchmarks? Maybe. Overall, no.

Im running X-fire 2900XT's honestly no its not worth it unless you are getting very crappy FPS in most games but i have issues with running X-Fire for a couple of games but as soon as i disable it the game works great, if you have the money AND the power to run them go for it if your getting a steal like i did with mine, got my second 2900xt for $50.

Decided to dump both idea's. The gain is not all that great either way so mayas well wait till next year see what ATI offer then.

With 2 2900XT's i be looking at a easy 500w power draw after overclocking which i would do lol. I hit 380w now hehe...

Buy a HD 4870 and nothing else.. SLI and Crossfire are over-rated. You only need 1 card. The real question is what brand.. NVIDIA or ATI? And that would depend on what chipset your using in order to get the full experience of the card of choice I.E. -- X38 .. X48 .. and P45 chips are made for ATI users in general.(you can use a nvidia card with these chips but your performance wont be there compared to using an ATI card.)

Those chips are INTEL's comeback chipsets for ATI users because of the huge array of NVIDIA based motherboards.
Now that doesnt mean that you can only use ATI cards with them, It just means that ATI fans have a better choice of Mobos to choose from. Not only that but on a personal note I belive tha X48 and the P45 are the 2 best chips intel has ever produced for overclocking and stability. And they were made with ATI users in mind.
