hmm, you can try aftermarket cooling if your fan does shit out. If it does, your card will be fine, it has gpu recovery. I have my fan speed at 75-90% depending on what im playing.
also, 80C seems pretty hot. I have my 8800GTS OCed and mine doesnt go above 56C.

with air cooling the more you wanna cool somthing the more noise you're gonna hear its better than letting it overheat If you game with a headset shouldnt be a problem.

80degC is still in the average idle range for the reference cooled HD4850s.
Especially if you live in a warmer climate.

I read a review on a Sapphire HD4850 which idles at 85degC and it runs fine.
My Sapphire HD4850 idles at 76degC after gaming and can reach 94degC when playing GRID.
Haven't had one issue with the card.

can not change profile in ATICatalyst 8.8

you can... i'm using the 8.8's right now and my fan is at 50% using a CCC profile that i edited. i have 1 for 50% fan speed and 1 for 100% fan speed.

did you even read that post i linked and try it?
