Surprisingly, two 4770's would be around 1 1/2 +/- times the performance of a 4870 (stock).

Thats not surprising, it's been known that 4830's CF'd beat out GTX280's and 4770's at stock are very close runners with 4830's.

Hes right. Two 4850s CF spank one 4870 all day. 4770's would be no different.

Well here's me being stupid with my 4850's clock speeds: 750 MHz core, 1125 MHz RAM!! No extra voltage, since I can't find any vmods for this card :(
CPU was clocked at 3.2 GHz, and I reckon that was bottlenecking the card slightly since I actually got higher score with 3.8 GHz CPU and 720 MHz GPU.
I have yet to try upping my CPU AND doing 750 MHz on the core, but in both Vantage and Crysis the 750 MHz was stable. :D

I built a system for my parents that ahd a dual core and a 4770 and I almost traded them out of the 4770 for my 4850, but the amount of vmem was the kicker, in benchmarks I could get the 4770 to hold neck in neck with my card, but games would have killed it compared to my system.

And thus learn that synthetic bencmarks are great for e-peen, but mean jack in real world performance.

Yeah thats the sad thing about 4770's, only 512mb models. And the prices are really close to 4870 512mb models, they just aren't worth it, but would be a fun thing to mess around with.

With a fresh install of Windows 7. Minor Tweaking. This should pick up once I figure out tweaks for W7 in my system bios.

look at the 2 gpu-z screens : there is one hd4850 1gig!

He's just telling you that when you crossfire a 512MB card with a 1GB card, the 1 GB acts like a 512MB card. It cannot use the whole 1GB.

in real world the hd4850 gddr3 does not kick ass the hd4770 when it's correctly oced (not @850/850...;)...But the hd4890 with its 1Gig of gddr5 can say goodbye to a CF hd4770 oced in heavy game like crysis on high res....

I would never recommend any card 512mb's and under for any resolution over 1680x1050 if you want eye candy with your graphics. Just look at the reviews for a 1gb and a 512mb 4870 for example. At 1920x1200 in many games the performance doubles using the 1gb card.

Exactly, these newer games and newer resolutions are driving the need for more on board memory. Everyone who cries about Crysis, and all the other newer games needs to understand when you bought your new CPU, and monitor to see the beauty of a game your old 256MB card isn't going to cut it.

What does that have anything to do with my statement? The 4850 1GB + 4850 512MB combo still uses the 1GB card like it was a 512MB card.

screen was not meant to you man, just a post for all in the battle 4850 vs 4770. I can edit if you prefer...

voilà!
"old screen" of cross HD4770@1000/1100 on M2G:

everyone is happy so...
