you're supposed to compare 5770 to 7870, or possibly even 7770 or 7750? just some general ranges that are similar to a 48704890

having a 4870x2 & a 570m, i want to throw that in as well, 570m is slightly faster than a single 4870

regardless, 4890 doesnt have dx11, doesnt have mantle, doesnt have driver updates, doesnt have better compute, the list goes on

is the real question 'should i get 7870/270x now or wait until tonga/new cards'?

Although not what you may be looking for, I would suggest a 7950. I recently went from a 5850 to a 7950 used from craigslist for about $135. I don't know your budget but I am guessing it would be at least $100. I had to research and there was Gigabyte's 7970 in my price range but the online reviews were awful.
Hope this helps.

i know, my point is you're not gonna find many comparisons out there, so you have to do the next best thing... similar performing cards to get an estimate

or use this extremely simplified estimate... 3870 *2 = 4870, 4870 *2 = 5870, 5870 *2 = 7970

285 sounds exciting, i'm eyeing that myself
