As title says, after having this GPU kicking about for.. uhh.. almost 3 years and it just sitting in a box I decided to sit down and see just how far it could OC.
The Journey..
Firstly, I grabbed a much newer vBIOS for the card than it had on it, original was 12.20.01, vBIOS I went with is 12.20.25. The newer vBIOS gave a GPU voltage bump to 1.16v which was nice, I also injected a signature file from a different HD5830 vBIOS to increase Overdrive GPU limit to 1200MHz and memory limit to 1500MHz as well as customising the fan profile and clockspeeds (except for 3D) to save some power and work around the multi-monitor bug.
With all that done it was time to flash the modded vBIOS to the card, maximum stable clocks I ended up with using Unigine Valley to test stability was 960MHz GPU 1300MHz memory, not bad at all really. Below are the unigine Valley results:
Settings:
API: DX11
Quality: Ultra
S3D: Disabled
Monitor: Single
AA: 8x
Resolution: 1680x1050
Catalyst 13.6 B2
CCC Settings: All default except AF was set to 16x, High Quality.
960 / 1300 8x AA:
960 / 1300 2x AA:
950 / 1250 2x AA:
There we have it. This was purely a exercise in curiosity but when its all said and done I have to admit the performance out of this card isn't as woeful as I remember it when I reviewed it. Now my curiosity is satisfied I'm probably going to sell this card, so if anyone is interested drop me a PM.
