Hi everyone,

I'm back and asking for more advice, So anyway I have my 5850toxic and I love it to pieces, she sits with (low usage - watching films, surfing net etc) 49-50degree's C, with 30% fan usage, (set to auto)

Now this is "fine" however I feel I should make the most of the fan, why not use it a bit higher (ie 40/50%) it makes no noise differences to me (it's quieter than the case fans) now CCC will allow me to set my GPU fan to a set speed however if it got hotter it wouldn't increase.

Is their a piece of software out there which will allow me to control the GPU fan speed @ temperatures.

ie 40c uses 35% fan but 50c uses 45% fan etc etc etc....

Hope this makes sense.

Yes, MSI Afterburner gives you fan control and a graph to set your fan at what you want it for the temperature.

Hi everyone,
Is their a piece of software out there which will allow me to control the GPU fan speed @ temperatures.

You don't need to have another program running to control the fans. Why eat up more memory with yet another program when it's not necessary? Edit your GPU's BIOS with RBE v1.25 (Radeon BIOS editor). Under Fan settings tab you can increase the fancycle/threshhold.

Save the BIOS and reflash with ATIFLASH. RBE v1.25 is available here.
Guide for flashing here.

Best of luck!

MSI Afterburner is the best. you could set your fan to a certain speed when reaching a certain temp.

Thanks man,i really appreciate your try.I just wonder, why in the bios the settings are: when the card reach the 60 degrees the fan spins at 40% but in real time the card even reach 70 the fan never goes above 30%.I am using the afterburner,i asked just for the curiosity.

To be fair I do not think I'll be running out of ram anytime soon and I do not fancy flashing the card.

No, I am talking about the transfer function. I used threshold in the wrong context. Sorry for the confusion.

Duty cycle is what the fan spins at in % until it reaches Tmin which in the pic is set at 22% until it reaches 55c, it then ramps up at Tslope until it reaches 100% Duty cycle at 102c.

In other words with the settings you see in the pic your fan will always spin at a minimum of 22% until the temp sensor reaches 55c then ramp up at 27% until it reaches 102c and at that point it's spinning at 100% and will continue to do so until the temperatures start to drop and then it will reverse the process. If you want the fan to spin at 30% min then change Duty cycle min(%) to 30. If you want the fan to start ramping up sooner change Tmin to say 30 or 40c instead of 55c. And finally if you want the fan spinning at 100% sooner than the pictured 102c then lower the Tmax setting. The Tslope will automatically change depending on Tmin/Tmax.

Well I'm rambling on here and it's late so I hope this is the info you werre looking for.

Best of luck!

One uses Tmin, Tmax and Duty cycle percentages to determine fan control. The other uses a lookup table as seen in the pic above. All part of the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specification available here for your perusing pleasure...yawn.

I can't understand as well as you ( i am from Greece so my English isn't very well) but i figured out that if you tick this option "set all this settings to the recommended" and then go to the additional features and tick the "don't fix" option (by default is "fix/already fixed") the fan will work like the bios says.
