HD6870 - underclocking possible?

Hello, RBE Community!
I'd very much like to underclock my Sapphire HD6870 so it draws less power under video playing conditions, but after reading in this forum, I have severe doubts that flashing will actually work.

Is it true that flashing Barts (i.e. HD6850 & HD6870) GPUs is impossible?

If not, I've attached:
a) the original BIOS, which I extracted via GPU-Z --> hd6870.zip
b) the RBE modded BIOS with my desired changes --> mod6870.zip

I'd be glad to hear from all you HD6870 owners out there who successfully flashed their cards.
Please reply! :)

Hi, I've trouble too. I want to flash my 6870 with a quieter fan profile. But it's just messing the fan controll up.

So far at least half a dozen people have cared enough to download the zips and take a look.

Still, I really'd appreciate some form of feedback before I flash my GPU into nirvana...

Isn't it possible to underclock with Afterburner? I only use it for fan speed control and FPS counter, so I don't know.

This, just use MSI Afterburner and set apply manual overlock on startup.
Your GPU will use the specified clocks for 2D and 3D without any hassle... I personally never recommend flashing custom bios especially because with ATI/AMD is hard to get a different clocks bios running without it being the same as one of the resellers like Sapphire, XFX etc.
They need to be validated as far as I know
