Hitachi is the cheapest mark i know so i wouldn't recommend it. It is slow, cuz i have had a hitachi hdd before buying the seagate barracuda.

Because you had a Hitachi disk before a Barracuda it is slow? That's logic nobody could deny.

They haven't been referred to as "Deathstars" since they were made by IBM (Hitachi bought IBM's hard drive line in 2003). I have 2 of these drives and they have been performing well for 8+ months now. And you can't really beat the price.

thanks for that, i still find hitachi are the worst drives for reliability all my external hdd that have died have had a hitachi disk

Ive always had good luck with hitachi and the worst luck with Seagate.

I've never had bad luck with any of them. The ones that died usually died at 5 years old having been used an average of 6 hours a day.

The HITAHI actually has better reviews than the WD. What are yall talking about. I'd go for the cheapest one with better reviews. I guess it all depends on personal experience.

Honestly, statistic show failure rates for HDD based on brand is pretty much the same across the board with the except of some really bad products.

Hitachi had some issues in the past, but most if not all those issues are gone with the 7K series. Benchmarks show it to be one of the faster drivers in single platter catagory and I will recommend it.

I have had the worst luck with Seagate like that even matters.

Yea, it seems like people base their opinion off a single hard drive death. Guess what, 1 HDD out of millions is nothing, and you're just the unlucky one. It happens with every company. I've used Hitachi, Western Digital, and now I'm on to my first Seagate. They are all the same in my eyes from a gamers point of view. SSD is where speed is.

SSD's are still too rich for my blood. I have no issues with load times, so I see no really need to get an SSD. Maybe I just have to experience it to see the difference.

I was thinking about buying a VRaptor from this guy on TPU who is selling several 150 GB for like $65 and a 300 GB for like $100 though. I will have a little money to burn in two weeks.

sorry to say hitachis just hate you and just die

joke apart - I have/had 6 hitachi drives and only one died (because of faulty external case, it died and took the hdd with it too).

They are fast and energy efficient too.

I stopped buying External Drives. I find them to be pointless for my needs.

I also think drives used for Externals are not has high quality or tested as well as desktop HDD. One trend I know is true is the majority of failed drives I hear about are from externals or Dell. I don't know. Maybe it is the additional stress from moving around (getting tossed around in bags, cars, etc.)
