HDD sentinel question

I was looking at a used laptop and always like to view the software captured specs. While looking at the specs of the laptop I saw something strange. The HDD seems to bee used for 39 days and 8 hours, and the start stop count seems to show 1259. So in theory he turned the lap top on/off about 1259 times/~40days=32 times a day. Does that make any sense?Can that be a real number of is this a photoshoped image?

Could this be possible

the issue is your thinking in literal terms. The program adds 24 hours and thats how it counts days. The actual "day" a user might use the system averages different but you could assume 8-16 hours a day. which then makes more sense.

if you do 24*39+8=944 hours.

If we assume he used the machine in 8 hour periods we get

944/8

we get 118 usage periods.

if we assume the drive counts power on and power off we do

118*2=236 physical power cycles.

The real question is does the HDD count sleep mode as a start stop? or does it count head parking as start/stop? that can skew the number.

It is also possible the drive simply didnt record the data correctly to begin with.

I believe they do count from my own testing and it's not HDD Sentinel to blame as it just reads from SMART. All so sounds like windows is told to turn it off pretty dam often too.

Mines over 13K but has a hell loads more hours but it's rarely used so when it does power off it's not back on for a good while as my apps and games are on my SSD's.

Yep, sleep is a power in cycle. So on a laptop that goes to sleep often these numbers are totally plausible.
