i have an usb cable with LED at both ends, bought it without knowing that, and it was a cheap one. Funny in the dark....

Visited them a couple of months ago, they actually make quite nice optical cables, but yeah, the RGB version isn't very useful. It apparently took them quite some work to figure how to make the light even. It uses two LEDs, one at each end and then they use a special material as a light pipe that spreads the light evenly through the entire length of the cable. It looks nice, but doesn't serve much of a function.
Come 8K, copper cables aren't really going to work for more than 1-2m, so optical is kind of the future for HDMI cables. Shame these won't be able to do 8K, as the optical transceivers are limited to 4K, for now.

Sorry mate, they only come with red LEDs to warn you that you're pushing too hard. That said, they do come with Bluetooth and apps that lets you know that you've been a good lad, as you brushed your teeth seven days in a row...

The only thing RGB is useful for is temp monitoring. Going from Green to Red as your gaming session heats up your PC.

But the actual temp reading sitting in my system tray does that too. And that matters since I am focusing on what is being displayed on my monitors, not flashy lights coming from inside my case.

I do understand the appeal for nice aesthetics. But I guess I am just a more practical person than some. A nice paint job on my truck looks good. But it serves a practical purpose too - it keeps the rust at bay.

RGB lighting looks nice, but is there really a practical purpose? It does nothing for performance, it consumes some energy, it generates some heat, it can be distracting and it does nothing for performance (worth repeating).

Your temperature monitoring purpose is the only true practical purpose I have seen. But all it really tells you is the temperature just crossed some threshold. Useful but still vague.

I know exactly what you are saying you don't notice anything RGB when involved in a heavy game or compute session I was just listing one viable use that is easily defeated by function by MSI afterburner. Actually I just thought of another; it helps you sell gaming PCs to newbs.

Hmmmm, no.

At least these guys make a plain old, regular optical HDMI cable, which is still quite expensive...
These cables are hand made in Taiwan though.

RGB has another use, put your cases at the window and everyone thinks you got some pretty christmas light decorations! No extra money spent on electricity bill!
