hdmi issues

i've had my tv working for ages over hdmi to watch movies etc but today i turned it on and started watching a movie and had to stop it so i could get DTS working in MPC.

after trying i found that the sound control panel said that the realtek HDMI output was not connected although it was as i was watching a film on the tv so i hit my "tv on" profile in CCC to enable it and i lost signal to both my tv and monitor. now when ever i plug the hdmi cable to the tv into the gfx card and hit detect displays i lose signal to my monitor and the tv doesn't come on.

im at my wits end with it now as i can't figure it out and it's worked flawless for ages, uninstalled drivers and updated to no avail

First and foremost; try a different cable.

cables fine, tested it on another device to the same tv and the cable worked ok on the pc before too

How long ago though? I've had a cable work fine on a DirecTV box but not ok on a PC. Switched the cable and everything works well.

was working on the pc just a few days ago and today right before i hit the detect displays button in CCC, now it refuses to work

Are you using the 12.4 drivers?

Try the 12.6 beta drivers. They do much better. I had the same problem with audio over HDMI.

it was working fine on the 12.4 drivers until today so i did a full uninstall and installed the 12.6 drivers and the problem remains. i was hoping it was just a simple primary display detection error and when i hit detect displays its defaulting to the tv which is using an incorrect resolution/refresh rate but it doesn't look like it now.

re-install driver - revert back to one that worked 99.9% stable; +1 lilhasselhoffer [catalyst 12.4's have some issues with the HD 5xxx series]

nb: try catalyst 11.9 whql or 12.1 preview

As you using an AMD GPU to output the HDMI signal. You need to switch the audio to AMD HDMI audio out. That may fix the issue, but I am guessing if you are like me, your monitor is still connected while the TV is as well. If that is the case, disconnected all other monitor sources, turn everything off, turn the TV on first, then turn on your PC. It should audio detect and correct the output issue.

working fine now i have W8 running, guess there was a conflict somewhere and a reinstall solved it, not sure if i like W8 yet
