I have $400 to spend on a Gaming LCD. I wish I could get a Dell 24", but that is too much.

I have been looking at 22" models @ 1680x1050 and 19" @ 1280x1024.

But I want the HIGHEST RESOLUTION money can by without any GHOSTING. So it has to be 8ms or less with great image quality.

So far the 22" offerings from Dell, Viewsonic, Samsung, and Acer are my best bets as far as I can tell,

...but I am open to suggestions.

GeForce 8800GTS is my Graphics card and I love playing at High Res.

Thanks,

I have both a Dell and Viewsonic 20.1" Widescreen LCD, as well as a Sony.

My Viewsonic has 16ms response time and my Dell has 5ms response time.
In either of them I cannot tell of any ghosting in games and I play a lot of FSP and fast action games).

I must say though that I do like the Viewsonic a bit more since it has more options available to it (like for example it has more brightness options, etc.).

Just note that as long as you stay 16ms and under in response time (I belive you can even have a 20ms response time) and you wont notice any ghosting.

Also, check to make sure that the panel you choose has 16.7 million color instead of 16.2 million colors. This is a little important (at least to me) bc with 16.2 million colors (6 bit panel) the colors look washed out when compared to a CRT. The 16.7 millions colors looks much better (either an 8 bit panel or a 6 bit panel w/ dithering).

Another thing that may be important to you is the contrast ratio. This is how sharp the picture looks to you, hence higher is better.

Hope that helps :)

There is quite a difference between response time, color depth and contrast ratio.
It depends on the person.
16.2 million colors looks really bad if you watch DVDs on your computer.
Response times matter only for games.
It was proven that the fastest current response time (which is 2ms) still shows signs of ghosting, but this ghosting cannot be seen by a human eye.
Have you ever tried to play Counter STrike or any FPS game on a LCD with a response time of 30ms?
I have and it was pretty bad.
I saw a lot of ghosting and it was really annoying.
It was like I saw 2 of everybody.
So that is why manufacturers mostly stick with 16ms and under

As for contrast ratio that is preference.
If you watch movies on it then you want a nice contrast ratio so its like watching a TV.

Trust me these things do matter since you are shelling out some nice money for these LCDs.
You dont want to be stuck with something that bothers you.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16889102055 this is what i play on, but i use it as a tv too, i was going to buy a monitor, then decided for the small loss in pixels and the big gain in using it for my xbox360 and tv i would just save and buy this.... but if i were to get a monitor it would def be that new LG linked two posts above me

thats what i would buy if i didnt use my 23in samsung HDTV

I am looking into this one. Thanks for the tip.

I have never liked "LG" but I may give it a try.

Newegg says this display Features: HDCP (witch is a must for me)
and also a 3000:1 Contrast Ratio, w/ a 5ms responce time is AWSOME!

I wonder if that means the Picture Quality is like 3 times better than most?

Does it do the "16.7 million color instead of 16.2 million colors" that was mentioned earlier?

Also I haven't seen any review for this display and Gaming. I am scared of "Ghost"-ing.
I read somewhere that there is no REAL standard to measure the "Responce Time" so some manufactors just wing it. Again I won't put up with any Ghosting.

Still wary of LG. So anyone w/ an LG display SPEAK UP. I need reviews to calm my fears.

my dell 2001fp(got it free) is rated at 16ms responce but it dosnt ghost at all(or i would be using my 19in kds crt)

lg makes some great lcd panils, its the stuff behind them that can suck, the lg branded are normaly good tho.

and responce time is subjective it seems, i know my buddys unit thats rated at 6ms ghosts like a mofo, but my 16ms unit dosnt ghoest at all PERIOD.

I don't like using widescreens for gaming. Although the support is better now, it was a real pain to get BF2/2142/SF/AF/EF to run right in widescreen.

I love my samsung 20.1 @ 1600x1200 think I paid $300 after rebate...

I am greatful for that post for the LG display and then again to the LG site. I had looked but, didn't find it.

I see "Intelligent Auto Resolution " I wonder if that is just a fancy way of saying it will streatch Resolutions well. I know my other widescreens don't do two black bars on either side of the normal 4:3 resolution. They all streatch it and it distorts the text. This is one thing that worries me about getting a widescreen. But then again I love gaming in widescreen.

Okay, unless I see a reason not to then I will order that LG display Monday.
Thanks for all the help.

I have very pleased with my 22in acer...and i got it for 250 bucks!

Is it this one?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2549197&Sku=A179-2210

$50 rebate makes it $269! That is $100 cheaper than that LG Display!

or
Newegg w/ no rebate mess, for $289 (That's what I'll do if I get this one.)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009102&CMP=

I read somewhere that to get the "Vista Certified" logo you displays have support HDCP.

Also when I downloaded the Guide from Acer for this model it says it supports "Digital HDCP".

Do you have any Ghosting on yours? (or anyone have this one?)

Thanks,

I have the 2216...which I got from circuity city during the holiday season. The box does have the HDCP sticker, and they just released the "vista certified" about a couple weeks ago...but same thing. I have no ghosting what so ever...great monitor.

Good to know.

There is a difference. 16.7 Million colors vs. 16.2 Million and 700:1 vs 800:1.
I wonder witch matters more? I know what both are but, Bruins04 said 16.7 is way better and like a CRT. However, not much difference in 700 and 800.

What do you guys think?

Contrast is pretty high on "high" on my eyes. I think the color does make an issue.

what do you know, CC is having it for the same price...I think i have use a coupon I had to get it to 250 (combination of a coupon and opening a card), but it was 300 after rebate...

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer...62989/catOid/-12965/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

So are you saying that Contrast Ratio or Display Colors is MORE Important?

I think Display Colors would be in this case considering the only 100 point difference in Contrast Ratio, between these 2 ACER models.

Well you got to do some research to see how import is 500,000 colors are...but for me, 700 contrast is decent enough. also the 2216 has a 170degree angle compared to the other at 160...but i doubt that makes much of a difference.
