Obviously each cards actual performance would depend on the set up of the computer its being paired with. Beyond that, looking at the specs of each as is they're probably pretty close, yes the Radeon has twice as much memory as the GeForce, but the GeForce's RAM operates 620MHz faster than the Radeon. The fact the Radeon is a PCI-E 2.0 vs. PCI-E 1.x for the GeForce might affect performance, I'm just not sure exactly how.

thanks for the input, i was just looking into this and the price of the two are pretty close and the most other sites just give specs, and each are strong in different areas. i just wanted peoples input to see wich is better

I had the 8600GTS and it was a great card. I got 6K in 3dmark06 and I could run Bioshock, F.E.A.R, and Oblivion easily. It's a good card, but I would recommend an 8800GS, or a 3850 before those any day of the week.
