I have cheaped out on desks my entire life, I am currently using a cheapo $40 from walmart and it isn't bad by any means, but it just doesn't sit my monitor far enough back. My budget is around $50-120, prefer to keep it on low end. I don't even care if it is a cheap foldable desk but I can't even find that on amazon or wal-mart (with good enough proper depth)

anyone welcome to help, thanks

amazon, newegg, walmart usa links welcome

edit: my current depth is 20" i want at least 24" no more than 30"

yep this is perfect for my needs, my local Ikea has 15 in stock. I can fit two side by side just barely in my room. I think I will do it, that is a ton of desk space... my asgard 2 amp, everything else... no more being crowded will finally have plenty of room.

great find, thanks man

What kind of monitor or monitors do you have? With your current depth of "20" how far away are you sitting with your monitor?

I have a pretty cheap desk as well 22" depth. if your open to alternatives I can recommend what I am currently using.
I'm using a monitor mount that would fit within your budget at $80 and lets me really use most of the limited space I have.
It's like having a new desk really and I could put my monitors at just about 20" away and adjust them while also keeping the monitor physically off the desk to provide space.
(Depending on how you adjust the monitors you might get about 11" of height under the monitor.)

HUANUO Dual Monitor Mount
https://www.newegg.com/p/15Z-01XB-00052
(fixed link)

They have a single arm mount as well but I don't know much about it. If it's the same quality as the dual as I have then I'd say it should be pretty good.

Not sure if you have the option, but a corner desk offers a ton more real estate and depth. Not the L shaped ones, but the diamond shaped ones.

If you're going with IKEA, I suggest getting a set of their height adjustable legs, as some of their tables are a bit low, obviously depending on how tall you are. The cheap table tops are exactly that, cheap. It's corrugated cardboard inside them and if you drop something heavy on them, they'll break and you have a hole in your desk.

These are much better tables, but at a much higher price point.

I have an Ikea Gerton top on some old steel folding legs. Nice and minimalist. The work surface is 30" deep. The alex drawer units are heavy as hell and kind of low quality, I have one. I'd recommend just buying the legs elsewhere from a hardware store, not from Ikea.

not sure where to find quality legs, with some much low quality crap out there. The ones I am using I got from my dad, they might be 30-40 years old.

Look for a used furniture store near you, they probably have office desks used for cheap. I use an old adjustable 2 tier steel frame I got free years ago. Maybe have a look at 2 tier desks.

Thanks guys, I already decided I am buying the IKEA one for $45 with green top and white legs. Sadly shipping is $49, and curbside pickup is not available cause of overwhelming demand, and the store is also not open yet due to covid... so I just have to be patient...

Just do yourself a favour and get the height adjustable legs. I've had a table with each type of legs and the height adjustable ones are much better.
Sure, they're a bit more expensive, but it's not crazy money.

Also, IKEA is supposedly opening up all their warehouses globally any time now.

I have a mid century secretary desk. Will last forever and you can find them very reasonable if you look for it. It's large enough to add a 32 inch monitor, a xerox 8570 color cube printer and of course the case. I have an industrial keyboard holder, ergonomic keyboard and foot rest and have everything else ergonomically set for me. Was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel with both wrists back in 95, Save my hands and saved my career.

Unfortunately a majority of you will get repetitive stress syndrome because of your keyboard and your ergonomics. The same flat style that has not changed in 40+ years. When you get older you are going to feel it.

I just went down the rabbit hole looking at new desks and workstations for my A/V production studio. This one looks like a very good deal for the price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VLW38Q/?tag=agelessinshap-20 and is 26" deep.

There are plenty of better options than Ikea if you do some looking. Getting something designed for your needs is usually a better deal in the long run.

2nd hand office desk. Indestructible, will pay itself back a hundred times over, and much more so than any IKEA tabletop. You also get: cable routing (it usually will even fit a socket box if you want to), much better stability, height adjustable (either with or without motor) and did I mention indestructible?

About 200-250 bucks should get you there easily. I got mine NEW for that price, L shape is also highly recommended; do take into account whether you are left or right handed. Its a real perk having an extended table at your mouse arm-side. Do get a rounded L shape on the inside and not two straight tables stuck together, it seems a minor thing, but that straight corner and the gap will annoy the crap out of you in due time, its also a structural weakness.

Had my share of IKEA 'wood' furniture but in terms of durability its like glorified cardboard. In some cases it really is.

What struck me in the OP is 'I cheaped out on desks my entire life'... and then opting for a 45 dollar slab of wood with fixed legs. Euhm... :p

I'm also seeing the eternal mess of glass/metal/shiny bullshit... please, stay far away if you care about ergonomics or comfortable use. Its form over function, that. Glass is the biggest no-no... not scratch resistant, any damage is forever visible, can't mouse on it, attracts fingerprints... there is actually not a single redeeming quality.

Just do yourself a favour and get the height adjustable legs. I've had a table with each type of legs and the height adjustable ones are much better.

Familiar legs, those :) There is a small problem if you want to use them for a heavy desk top with lots of gear on it. Any skewed movement will cause damage as the screws cut into the top (or just straight rip it up). Those feet are just a couple of screws planted in (usually) extremely weak tabletop material. One firm push... your whole desk can come crashing down. Any good desk has an 'H' (or T) structure as support, to prevent that.

I literally IKEA"d my way through my 20s... but you do get what you pay for. A few years down the line, you'll be thinking of replacements.

not sure where to find quality legs, with some much low quality crap out there. The ones I am using I got from my dad, they might be 30-40 years old.

That could work though. Just the top and solid wood is always good :)

The OP is looking to spend what appears to be $50 on a desk...
As you can see above, I tried to suggest something better.
I have the crap table top with the regular legs, as I just needed something cheap at one point, but I got one of their bamboo tabletops with the adjustable height ones. Not unpacked it since we moved, as I don't really have space for it now. I guess I should throw out the crappy one in favour of the nicer table, but never got around to it, as I don't really use the cheap one either...

They actually make proper "commercial grade" office tables to, but they don't cost $50.

Well, you can see all the crap on the floor under a glass table top...

Yes I got that, but with desks, spending a little means spending more over time. As it is with most furniture actually; better do it right one time, or you'll end up constantly replacing stuff. The net cost is certainly higher and comfort of use certainly lower.

All for @lynx29 to consider really. If it has to be the 50 dollar IKEA choice by all means :)

I've had a look around for US offers... its a maze of mostly the same consumer crap, flimsy stuff overall...
You should take a look at a site such as this - but then US... somehow hard for me to search on.

I see solid stuff within your budget. A typical office desk also has the depth you require, its pretty spacious.

honestly if i had to pick between that $162 desk you linked and the $45 IKEA one, I pick the IKEA, i want a flat open 29" depth, very minimalist with lots of room to work with, and the green top and white legs is just the look i am going for right now

So far I've built all of my workstations myself over the past 30+ years. Modding free or cheap office desks off Craigslist to suit what I wanted to do or fabricating the entire thing is part of the fun. Sadly old age & arthritis have caught up with me, all of my saws and other power tools are in storage and my wife nearly strokes out when I mention wanting to build anything anymore. At my age keeping the wife happy is a full time job and when she's not happy she makes sure I'm not either. I did locate a fantastic huge professional workstation today at a fraction of its original $1400 price but even that needs a few mods to fit my needs. The thing weighs 275 pounds and the materials alone to build one like it are twice the asking price.

You can go to a hardware store and buy the stuff to build a desk to your standards.
All you need to know how to use is a screwdriver, masking tape, and have the ability to use spray paint.

Do you guys have any refurbished office furnature stores around? I've two desks I picked up when I bought my home, I think 2400mm wide and 800mm deep. I'm not a light person but I can stand on these things and they don't budge... My corner desk, little unimpressed by..

However, the two desks that were refurbished cost me total £50 delivered to my home. My corner desk cost me over £250. I know where I'd rather my money went...

These desks are also plain jane models, nothing flashy about them at all.
I have even tried building a desk with a firedoor before.. The door was on sale from £200 + vat down to a £10 + vat.. It was huge and was as sturdy as a rock again!! Loads of options about :)
