Hello all welcome to thread,

I just purchased a Galaxy GTX 660 TI GC today and so far loving it. Over clocking it as we speak. So far at +50Mv Core, 110% power limit and 1345Mhz Core on Boost that's up from 1210Mhz GC stock Boost. Will post final clocks for memory and GPU core later. On with the thread...

When reviewing the manual (yes pays to read) I discovered that this particular card has a DUAL BIOS !!! YEAHHHHHH HIDDEN BONUS!! I had no Idea this card had a dual bios!! The manual says that it's a dual bios but I noticed it does not have a dip/bios switch. The manual went on to say that secondary bios will ONLY become active if the card detects the first bios is corrupted. The card will then AUTOMATICALLY boot to the second bios, re-flash the first bios then reboot! NOW THAT IS FRACKING AWESOME! I had no Idea Galaxy was so dope!My question is, how can I safely flash this card to 670 specs to gain the 32vs 24Rops and 256 Bit Memory ? Is it possible? Asking for direct help or links from anyone that has flashed this particular card before.

Please post and be kind. Thank you,
:toast::rockout:

My question is, how can I safely flash this card to 670 specs to gain the 32vs 24Rops and 256 Bit Memory ? Is it possible?

Not possible. AFAIK, nVidia laser cuts the die to disable things on it, so it is physically disabled.

Plus the physical attachment to the GPU is in a 192-bit configuration, the memory chips for the extra 64-bits aren't on the PCB.

It's a good thing u have a dual bios because what ur asking to do will probably brick ur card

The best you could do is raise the power limit, voltage, and fan speed (if its max is currently less than 100%) with KGB.

660TI is not the same as a 670 period, less you want a dead board on your hands it is suggested to leave the bios alone. You can however modify that 660TI bios itself to enhance clocks/volts/power properties or use MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner

Hi Guy's thanks for reply.... ok that's what I thought. No not interested in bricking my board but was interested if it was possible. I personally didn't think it was possible but wasn't sure because back in the day you could flash a 6850 to a 6870 and was wondering if it was the same case. I was not sure if the memory bus was limited by the bios and not the structure of the card. Now as far as laser cut core, I believe that was on the GTX 670 and yes the GTX 660 TI is same GK106 but I wasn't sure if that cut core is what affected the ROPs because the GTX 670 is a cut core but it still has 32 Rops... I was mainly concerned about the ROPS an the Memory Bit rate. Thanks for answering that question Quickly. Thank you all.

Btw.. .current OC settings:
+50mv Core Voltage
115% power limit
1345.6Mhz GPU Core (+125 offset)
1590.3Mhz Memory (+180 offset)
power is showing at 75% which is weird.... did I blow something ?
Temp 67* C :) happy about that
Fan speed 61% custom fan settings.

it's weird i'm getting 75% power ... any thoughts ?

It's throttling your power, most likely due to your high overclock. Amazing GPU to be able to get that high, but the rest of your card can't handle it. Just back down on the OC till' it doesn't throttle any more.

its either that or load that card with more heatsinks and fans than factory. If its that 8800 in the Signature

Thanks Erocker ! and eidairaman,
Yes Erocker I was pleased :)... so far i'm very impressed with Galaxy. The GTX 650ti Boost I tried first was very nice but I needed more punch in Neverwinter. Hardware Kanucks reports a 1375Mhz Core and 6664Mhz Memory (1666Mhz) on that card but I'm not an expert and not getting that much, they also ran at 100Mv but mine proved unstable at 100mv. it ran ok at 80mv but didn't want to push it.
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...roundup-asus-evga-gigabyte-galaxy-msi-23.html

I called Galaxy tech support and they said their cards are supposed to run at that rate as they throttle them down on purpose to protect the cards ... does that sound legit ?
I backed the levels down to +0mv and 1309Mhz Core (+100 offset) and 1552Mhz (+100 offset) Memory and 100% power limit and it didn't raise power any.

Overall I'm very impressed with Galaxy so far... I've heard good things about them. I thought they were a knock off brand but what I've been reading is they were mostly in International markets and new to the USA. So far thumbs up!

Actually from what I've read the GTX 660 TI and GTX 670 are the exact same 106 Chip and in most cases PCB and the only difference is the ROPS and the memory Bit rate.
Here is proof > http://www.anandtech.com/show/6159/the-geforce-gtx-660-ti-review
Look at the specs for both on page one and you will see they are identical except for ROPS, Bit rate and minor TDP difference created by the higher Memory bit rate and rops. Respectfully, I think you are incorrect, they are virtually the same chip and in fact the GTX 660 TI is a 670 gimped on purpose, it's evident based on supply number for the GTX 660 TI would greatly exceed a normal expected fail rate for GK 106 chips. This is all widely know information on the web feel free to look it up :)
Ps, If I wanted to brick my board I wouldn't have come here first asking questions.... I've never bricked a board in 10 years of PC hardware support. :)

peace.

Fyi : HI ! galaxy tech was wrong ... and I found out something very interesting. Apparently the card does throttle down but only when adding high MSAA while testing in Furmark or Kumbustor.
When I turned off the AA the power shot up to 99% and the benchmark ran high and the card became unstable. At 8XMSAA on 1920x1080 I was able to achieve these following settings
Btw.. .current OC settings:
+50mv Core Voltage
115% power limit
1345.6Mhz GPU Core (+125 offset)
1601Mhz Memory (+180 offset)
Temp 67* C happy about that
Fan speed 61% custom fan settings.

However, when I do the same burn in test at 0xAA these are the most stable clocks I can get are..
No increase to V Core
No increase to power limit, (I left it at 100% because I suspected it was helping to crash the board)
1306Mhz GPU Core (+80 Offset)
1590.3Mhz Memory (+180 offset)
76*C (since running at 99% power it's running hotter than 8xMSAA settings above)
68% fan speed

I'll take those numbers. Not as good as I've hoped but better than standard 1084Mhz Core Boost and 1502Mhz memory.. but not by much on memory.

From what others have specified the card is crippled physically, so in term a totally different animal now. But as said earlier just overclock the thing and add more cooling is the best you can do, theres no unlocking ROPS, Shaders, Ram, Bus capabilities.

Ok well that's what I needed to know. Thank you. Wasn't sure.
