Because GPGPU benchmark is using PCI-e slot to send data into and from VRAM, both Read and Write tests are showing PCI-e connection speed.

Ah, that explains since he has only PCI-E 2.0. Didn't even know it myself, thanks!

Well gosh damn those VRMs get toasty! Wow, it seems crazy they should be this hot for extended periods of time.

This was done after a 40 minute gaming session with Battlefield 4 on Ultra, didn't notice any glitching out and all appears well.

Fellow RX580 owners, do you notice the same thing in gaming with VRM temps skyrocketing?

I'm sure VRM's are rated for upto 105c continous use so 85c after a gaming session seems absolutely fine.

In my personal experience with AMD, they run warmer then Nvidia cards but it's nothing to worry about.

Yes, still have the ancient drivers at the moment, because my internet connection from this desktop is bad (wireless is almost out of range). Okay for forum stuff but forget about downloading drivers.... So I have the new drivers being downloaded onto my laptop, then I will transfer over to my Phenom II rig...

Well, depends, in high-end class they do, but... We still can't forget Ther...Fermi, can't we? ;)

That may be the thing to some users why they dislike AMD, but this is why we have big EATX cases and custom loop liquid cooling. :rockout:

Looking at those numbers, it looks like you got a pretty good deal for the money! Numbers wise that card looks like it gives a 980 a pretty good spank. I think you paid almost 50 beans less for your new card than I paid for my used one. You could always replace the tim later.. I put some cf3 on mine, and it didn't make much of a difference, maybe 2c. I was looking at thermalright tf8 on aliexpress, with my coupon its only 10 bux for a 2g tube with free shipping.

Running this new video card has required some changes to be made to my cooling system.
-Had to swap out the Hyper 212 for the Fractal Designs 360mm radiator due to increased load on CPU
-have an 80mm fan flowing cool air over the VRM, RAM and chipset areas of the motherboard
-I can no longer run with the side on the case, it just bakes everything like a sauna if I keep it on
-All games have been stable thus far: BF3, BF4, BF1, Wolfenstein, Advanced Warfare

Here is a little snip after an hour of gaming, running Battlefield 4 on ULTRA settings:

We can see the graphics card is pegged at 100% and about 60% on the CPU...

It was getting close to the max allowable temperature on CPU. Moreover, with the hyper 212 in there it acted like a wood burning stove when gaming, and further heating of the case was not desirable. The 212 just wasnt up for the task! Goes to show you how changing the video card can have a major impact on other system components.

As for GPU temps they have remained about the same, the card starts to kick the fans on at 60*C and I'm seeing 185*F on the VRM section after periods of intense gaming.

interesting, I had a hyper 212+ on an OC phenom II x4 955 @ 3.8 or 3.9 (been a while so i cant remember) and it was able to handle it and kept gaming temps maxing out to around 60-62c. Obviously two less cores so the four heat pipes of the 212 are not pushed as much.
